Leaving oklahome and will stop in Fort Collins Colorado then Jackson Hole.

Want to be in Jackson Hole and want to stay close to Estes Park to fish and take the scenic drive.

Please offer suggestions.

Sounds like you're going to Fort Collins first - Hwy 14 runs along the Poudre River and there are some very nice forest service campgrounds along the way. If there's enough water, white river rafting is fun on this small river. You could then take Hwy 14 to 125/230 north into Wyoming. Just after crossing into Wyoming 130 heads east. You could go half-way and you'll be in the Snowy Mtn. Range and again, some nice forest service campgrounds - very pretty. Then backtracking a little, stay on 130 North to I-80 to Rawlins. Then pick up 287 into Lander where there's Sinks Canyon State Park in a pretty setting and continue west to Moran Jct. in Grand Teton Nat'l Park. There are forest service campgrounds from Lander to the Tetons. Here's a good site for finding forest campgrounds and many campgrounds have been updated:

Dow's F.S. Campgrounds

Once in the Tetons, considering staying in the park at Gros Ventre campground which would be closer to Jackson or a little NW at Colter Bay campground. Both have 350 well-spaced sites with no hookups with no reservations. Or if you want hookups, Colter Bay RV Park, next door to the campground, has them - at a much higher price and reservations needed.

Another option from Fort Collins is to drive through Trail Ridge Road in the park, coming out at Grandby then head north the same way as above. Unfortunately, you'll see some pine bark beetle damage in the forest as you travel north a little into Wyoming but that's a nature thing coming in cycles - uncontrollable.

Have a great trip and hope you catch some fish!!

This is incorrect
You can't get to Trail Ridge Road (Rocky Mtn NP) from Ft Collins
You need to go south to Loveland or Longmont and then go west on either 34 or 36.

West of Ft Collins takes you on Hwy 14 thru the Poudre River Canyon and north of Rocky Mtn NP. (finally ending in Walden)

Last big trip with my 15 year old son. Need to be more in town at Jackson Hole and Estes Park. Or at least close to fishing along the river. Estes Park has many RV parks, one close to the entrance of the scenic drive and water would be great.

Yes, sorry for not stating it correctly. My assumption was that he was staying in Fort Collins and then going to Estes, hence, being able to take Trail Ridge Road from there.

Be warned: Highway 14 will be VERY SLOW. Lots of twists and turns. It's all 2-lane with few suitable passing areas. Don't be in a rush and enjoy the scenery.

Lazy Acres in Riverside, WY is a great little CG right along the North Platte River. Great people too.

At Gros Ventre campground, 7 miles north and east of Jackson, the campground runs alongside a small river that's popular with fishermen.

Stayed at the KOA N of Ft Collins. Park is clean. we explored area on motorcycle. Location is good if you want to tour the northern state parks one day (Poudre River Canyon) and Estes Park / RMN the next. it's in between the two.

ft collins is very nice town too. The KOA is only 4 miles away. Close to hi way.

If I read this right, you are about to leave... Have you checked on the road conditions? No really, you may think it's nice warm weather, but in Yellowstone it is still early spring.

I would stay on I-80 until Rock Springs, WY, then head north to Pinedale. From Pinedale go down the Hoback River thru Daniel and Bondurant to the Snake River. That puts you just 13 miles south of Jackson Hole.
The week of July 12 Pinedale holds a MOUNTAIN MAN RENDEZVOUS to celebrate the first Rocky Mounain Rendezvous near Daniel in 1825. The site is less than 1/2 mile off the road.
The drive from Pinedale-Jackson is very scenic with no passes to climb from Rock Springs. It passes on the west side of the Wind River mts.
There is lots of fishing from Pinedale to Jackson. You will cross about 3-4 rivers. New Fork, Piney Creek, Green River (you may want to go to the Green River Lakes) and the Hoback river are all fishable.
