I hate to be redundant but don't even think of staying out of the Park and commuting! Trailer Village. Been there several times.

Click on our website link LaurenBarbara below and look at Grand Canyon - winter. You might get this but probably not; never know that late.

Enjoy one of our favorite places.

Thanks for the comments, folks. We'll take a look at Trailer Village. Looking forward to seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time!

If Trailer Village is not available for your visit, there's another FHU campground about 6 miles away in Tusayon. Grand Canyon Camper Village is on the expensive side for what they offer, but it is close to the canyon.

A few years back stayed at Trailer village in the park. Arrived the week before Thanksgiving in a raging thunder-snowstorm. They closed the interstate behind us. When we arrived at check in they said "Your going to stay?... the forecast is for 2 feet of snow over the next 2 days." I said where else would I go. It did snow for 2 days. No Cell phone or TV. The shuttle system was great and we were able to get around. On the 3rd day the weather cleared. It was so spectacular with the snow, the canyon and the blue sky. It was so worth it.. Oh and there were no crowds like the summertime.

We liked trailer village in the park also. I would love to go back. Staying in the park maximizes your time to enjoy the sights. Sunsets can be spectacular.

Another vote, stay at the park, don't drive back and forth. I haven't been there at that time of the year, but I've made many hunting trips in the high elevations in November and it will be COLD. I'm usually safe in early November, but after that it's guaranteed I'll be hunting in deep snow. Weather in the high elevations is unpredictable, though it's very unusual I've been snowed on in both Yellowstone and Crater lake in the dead of summer.

When my DW began camping with me she thought I was nuts when I told her to pack one set of winter gear on a summer trip. She subsequently found there was a method to my madness and was glad she wasn't running around the mountains in snow in her shorts and tennys.

You want to say you have SEEN the Grand Canyon - this means sunrises and sunsets with the brilliant color - not say you have BEEN to the Grand Canyon. Midday washes out all the shadows and color.

Thanks for the suggestions. Anyone ever stay down @ Williams and drive up in vehicle for the day?

We did but did not drive but took the train. The train ride was a highlight of our 8000 cross country trip. 1st of OCT was starting to get cool with a little rain.

There was talk of on private cars in the part but not sure if that was ever funded.

If you take the train eat before you go and you will have time to do each stop on the bus route then eat before the train leaves. I think one high end option serves food by we took the KY redneck special offer.
