Hello All,
Sorry to keep bugging everyone with all my questions, but here is yet another. I have all the equipment now to tow my 2008 Saturn Vue, but need to get the baseplate installed and the lighting hooked up to the Vue, I need to have the Baseplate installed and the lighting from the Baseplate electrical connector back to the rear lights of the Vue.
I was quoted $650 dollars by the local Blue Ox dealer. Does this sound a bit steep to anyone else?

Thanks for all you advice

Sounds like an excellent price from what we paid up north here.

Is that labor, .. the baseplate, or both?

I was charged that much for just the labor for installing the baseplate and electrical (lights & pigtail connectors)

If it's everything it's a pure steal.!!

Do you need a brake assist/buddy, as well? More dollars? When I was considering Class A, I was quoted almost $2k for turn key system (tow bar, brackets, braking, lighting, install)....

Hello All,
That is just labor to install the baseplate and the wiring of the Dingy, I cannot help but think that is really high.
To reiterate, I have the baseplate, tow bar, wiring and a brake buddy.

It took almost 8 hrs to do mine, other vehicles will vary. The labor rate will dictate the cost and what you have is close to the norm around here for the average install.

The labor rate for mine was $80 per hour, and the rate has gone up since I had it done.

Most baseplates require the removal of the front fascia of the vehicle and some possible frame modifications. None of it is hard, but it's a slow process that drives up the cost at $80+ per hour. Same for the wiring, not hard, but takes time.

To me the quote looks to be reasonable.

I had my install done by Echarts Welding. They have several shops in SoCal. I used the Reseda shop and was happy with the results, granted I bought all the equipment from them, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I used a Roadmaster tow bar and baseplate and installed it myself. This is what's required. With the Roadmaster baseplate you need to remove the Vues lower facisa, enlarge two holes in the frame, remove the two large bolts holding the Vues sub frame and install the baseplate using the 6 bolts supplied. Then cut and reinstall or leave off the facia. The lights are not hard but consume time. Install the bracket for the plug to the front of vehicle, route the wires to the rear of the vehicle and either tap into the current lighting wires and install diodes or install additional sockets. Dress wires and tie wrap in place. When you look at what's required and the time it takes at probably over $100 per hour labor rate, $650 doesn't seem that bad.
