Hooked up to the water spigot at the local campground and ,later, found water dripping from the fresh water fill port... Water is "flowing backward" from the shore input, through the 12v pump and into the freshwater tank...
What should I look at? This is the first time this has happened... It's not flowing fast, but it's a steady drip...
I have tried changing the position of the drain/flow valve coming outta the freshwater tank, but that didn't help matters... We have a water regulator on the shore spigot leading to the supply hose...
This is our first RV -- '94 Warrior - Chevy P chassis - the kids say it has a "7.4 liter" engine... You and I both know it's a "454"... ask me about our toad!

In your wet bay there is probably a valve that is not shut all the way. It only needs to get bumped a little to allow water into the tank and overflow out.

Could be getting into fresh water tank like you said....back flowing thru pump.
Pump has an internal check valve (rubber like flapper). Sometimes they stick open due to debris/build up of minerals.
You can try running on pump for a day are so and see if water flowing thru pump will clean up the check valve.
You can take pump head apart and try cleaning up check valve.
You can take pump apart and replace check valve.
You can install on pump discharge hose an inline check valve.
If you have a valve that you turn to fill fresh water tank.....
You can exercise valve open/close to see if you can get tighter shut off
You can take valve apart and see if cleaning it up will get tighter shut off
You can replace the valve
Just depends on which one is letting the water get into your fresh water tank.
I have a gravity fill so I knew it was the pump check valve.......ran on pump for a week using up the water in tank. Hasn't been a problem since. That was about a year ago.

Hi,
There is a check valve in the water pump, so that it only pumps forward, from tank into the pressurized line. In your case, My guess is that water is leaking past the pump. The other thing is the fresh water fill might be leaking past all the time, due to a poor seal in the valve that is used to prevent the tank from filling all the time.

We had the same thing happen just a few weeks ago and it fixed itself when we changed campgrounds. We had a list of things to try and are still watching to see if it does it again.
Hope you get it resolved soon.

When that happened to me, it was due to not having a valve in my wetbay completely closed, as JimGo mentioned. It was just opened a smidge, hard to even notice, until I pushed on it with my fingers just to make sure.
Hope your's is that easy to solve

This happend to mine and I just installed a check valve in line with the water pump. It's been holding for two years now and I have mine hooked to water 6 months a year.

As others have already said, this is probably caused by a weak check valve. Sometimes this problem occurs intermittently and only when in a campground with unusually high water pressure.

Thanks for this thread....recently had this happen when at a campground with high water pressure. Does this do any harm to the pump? Should the fresh water tank be monitored & allowed to drain when one has this situation?
Yep, I was sure the fresh water tank was empty when leaving home. :-)
