If you're looking for a peaceful campground setting with a family-friendly atmosphere, and tons of activities, then this is your ideal location for a Finger Lakes, New York camping getaway whether you want to park your RV, pitch a tent, or rent a cabin, you will, too!

Hate living in the house which is like a box.
So I like Tent Camping.

I live in Rochester. State Parks can't be beat for value and location. Some have water and or electric, most are no hook ups. The Finger Lakes is a huge area, and each has it's own personality. Let me know what your priorities are and I'll see if I can help.

Max, I have never been to the Finger Lakes, but I heard the area is very nice. I just wanted to take a trip with the wife and kids and check out the area. I live about 3 hours south of Ithaca which is probably the south part of the Lakes.
I'd rather go with a mom and pop campground with full hook up.

Best place is Sampson State park. Center of the finger lakes and along Seneca Lake. Near wine trails and great fishing. Many water falls. If you are into boondocking there is Finger Lakes National Forest in Hector NY.

We have stayed at both Keuka and Sampson state parks. Both are nice and clean with decent sized sites. You can get electric hookup with water nearby. Both have beaches and playgrounds. Keuka is near some great wineries and down by the beach area is the best playground ever. Have fun! Better book soon.

I second the advice on Sampson State Park. It is a very clean park, has electric & water hook-ups, and a dump station. There is a swimming beach, boat launch and docking for your boat if you have one. Lots of hiking and a Navy museum (whole park used to be a Naval base then Air Force weenies took over for a flight training base. Local attractions are the wineries of course but also almost next door is an old Army weapons storage base with a rather large heard of white - white-tailed deer to be seen. Another park that has one loop with electric is Watkins Glenn SP. A must visit if only for the day to hike the beautiful glen - google for some pics ot this water carved glen hike.

Watkins Glen State Park is our pick for camping near Seneca Lake -- what a gorgeous area and a great location to base yourself. Easy to spend the day sightseeing the neighboring towns and lakes from there, and the Seneca Lake and Watkins Glen area itself is just breathtaking -- one of our very fav places!! You will NOT be disappointed.
The State Park is beautiful... wooded campground, nice sites - most are good sized and well spaced. If you want electric hookups - you want to get a site in the Mohawk Loop. They also have a newer playground in the campground area that is like nothing we have ever seen before - It's the best ever we have come across so far.. without question. The kids will LOVE it!! Very unique! There is also another smaller playground near the park's day use area, as well as a huge and very nice swimming pool. There is a good sized separate pool that is very shallow for the younger swimmers.. and then a huge pool with diving boards. Of course you have the Gorge Trail there in Watkins Glen too, which cannot and should not be missed!! AMAZING! So much to see and do in the area... it's a great time! The Finger Lakes is a great region of the state to explore!
SAFE & HAPPY TRAVELS!

We're hoping to finally try out Sampson SP this year... so nice to hear the positive reviews on that place as well.
Have to say that NY is one of our fav places to camp. We have been very pleased with and enjoyed our stays in all the New York State Parks so far. We spent over a week camping along Lake Ontario last summer (Hamlin Beach, Lakeside Beach, Golden Hill, & Four Mile Creek SPs) I'd love to do it again... great time!
