But a new pin box can help also. I had very little chucking on mine, and that was mostly just on certain concrete highways. I replaced the stock pin box with a 5th Airborne air cushioned pin box and it eliminated virtually all the chucking that I did have. Plus eliminates some of the shock from the trailer and makes the truck ride better. X2 on the 5th Airborne. I think any of the pin boxes designed to minimize chucking do what they say.

I'd play with it a bit. You don't want to haul an extra 200-300 lbs, when 100 will do the trick. :-)

The only time I've had chucking with any of our 4 fivers with 3 different trucks (F150 5.5' bed, F250 8' bed and current F350 6.5' bed) was when we were on a road surface that was uneven or not flat from heavy traffic. On smooth roads I get none at all.
I'm using an old RBW Lil' Rocker hitch.

When i traded the SRW Short Bed with a Slider Hitch for a DRW Long Bed and a B&W Hitch with the Companion, there was no more Chucking. Had to be in the Slider part of the Hitch.

K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid!
First check things that are cheap/easy. Procede in logical order.
check hitch is it worn? need adjustment? lubed properly? locking tightly? Check weight dist in trailer, like another said add some water to tank if in front of wheels (NOT the same as adding wieght to truck bed)Check on level smooth roads, and uneven rough one's
check to see/get truck and trailer as level as you can with the adjustments on hitch and trailer. If you do all that and still feel that youl'd like to be smoother... I'd first try least expensive option, adding airbags to truck suspension this will recover truck height and will smooth the ride conciderably. firestone and Air Ride make kits that are easy to assemble/install and about 1/2 $$ of pin airbag systems. Still not good enough?!?! Then go to a "pin cushen" system like mor ride or Trail Air (second most expensive hitch cushening ) Or the actual air bag cushen hitch (most expensive but I don't think they come in a slider auto or not)
Our newest came with the Trail Air pin box. I installed Firestone Air bags on TV, and have 16K pull rite superglide auto slider hitch.

CMC wrote: The first time I towed our 5th wheel I noticed it seemed like the truck was surging forward and back. Is this what they mean by chucking? What causes it and is there anything I can do to prevent it. Either by driving habits or installing something. Thanks
I solved it by purchasing a used 25K air ride hitch. I will move it from my current truck to my next truck whenever that happens. Yes, it is expensive up front, but the ride is fantastic. Put over 10K on it so far this year. Best part...it solved my problem instantly. No searching for the perfect amount of water in the tank, perfect gain setting, perfect airbag pressure, etc. And like I said, I will move it to my next truck. You going to do that with airbags?

Thanks for all the great advice. To answer some questions. The camper does sit level. The truck only squats about 2" when hooked up. It is a brand new trailer and hitch. It is a Husky 16K sliding hitch. Again thanks for the great info.

Moryde pinbox, agree I have had 2 5ers and had chucking problems on both and solved the problems on both 5ers. Now remember, you are towing a trailer and the ride will be differant from a car. but MorRyde Pinbox is the best, also Tweetys is the best price and fast shipping, They are located in Texas and you may be able to just go pick it up.

You don't need moryde for a 10K GVW camper. I also question how level it really is. A 2012 F-250 and a trailer with 15" tires makes me think it's out of level by a few inches and that's what is causing the chucking.
