my son is useing his 2005 tahoe to pull his rockwood 30 ft'er
does it surpriseingly well , milage suffers but , it does with every tow vehicle!! .... just part of the deal in my opinion ! WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION HITCH IS ESSENTIAL THOUGH !!

We use a 2007 Tahoe 5.3 w/3.73 and tow our 233T at about 4100 lbs. not loaded. While Michigan is mostly flat we have no problems. I am anxious to try other states with mountains. Our milage towing is 10 to 11 mph and combo city/highway is 17 to 18 w/active fuel management. I am satisfied with the mpg's. We towed the same trailer with an Explorer V6 got the same mpg's but had a difficult time getting up and over the Zilwaukee bridge. No extra power at all.

I have a 2WD - most of my daily is back & forth to work on interstate @ 65 mph. I check frequently with trip & on board computer. Tow @ 55-60 mph again usually interstate also tranny temp has never exceeded 190. Pretty happy with the Tahoe
ROFL. I knew you were full of it! Now, please tell us what your real fuel economy number is. Try hand calculating for a change.

With gas prices being what they are it's way cheaper to own both a tow vehicle and a daily driver than to use a tow vehicle as a daily driver. For the price of a newer 2500 Suburban you can get an older 2500 Suburban and a newer daily driver. I've considered doing just that with my 2006 F150.

I think the biggest question will be what TT are you getting. You have to remember that a 1500 suburban will run out of payload really fast and limit what you can get. As for a midsize SUV, you are going to be limited to some really small trailers. If you get a 20-26 ft TT you can probably be happy with something like an Armada but my '04 Armada was even thirstier than the numbers posted for the suburbans. I have actually figured out that I am paying about the same in fuel for the diesel F250 as I was for the Armada. Yes I know that is hard to beleive and I am going by actual monthly fuel bills paid and not actual mileage. Keep in mind, I use the F250 the same way I used the Armada for daily driving and intermittent towing. I know these are not 2 vehicles you have considered but I wanted to give you my real world comparison of how these 2 did with fuel. The towing is a world of difference and I get better towing fuel mileage with the diesel than the armada ever did.

I have an 07 Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2L and I pull a 30' trailer with no problems. It has the 6 speed tranny and with the 6.2L it pulls strong through the mountains and we have lots of room for kids and the dog

I was able to get 22 mpg in a rented 2010 Tahoe in Florida, driving from Miami to Key West and then up to New Orleans, as long as I kept it under 70mph. The AFM really works, and it had the 6 speed trans and 3.43 gears.
I tow my Passport 238MLWE with a 2003 Tahoe at home and get 10.5mpg towing and about 16.5mpg unloaded. My 2003 is a 4x4 with 3.73 gears and 5.3L, 4 speed trans. Plenty of power, my trailer weighs about 4900 pounds loaded.

I own a 2007 Tahoe LTZ. We tow a 2012 Keystone 2670bh. 5500lbs dry weight. We just got back from a trip from Chicago to Lexington, Ky. 420 miles one way. Truck did great. 2 kids and dog in tow also. We don't pack light. Not sure what loaded weight was. I watched trans temp the whole way. Flat land was no problem. Once we got into the hilly areas of Ky it climbed a little. Highest it got was it spiked at 230 degrees but ran 195-205 the whole way. I use a weight distribution hitch and dual sway friction control. But I'm going to switch to the dual cam setup. Had 20-25 mph side winds the whole way down and it wagged the tail a bit but still felt steady. cruised at 65-69 mph the whole way. Key to towing with the short wheel base truck is more tongue weight. Mine tows better with a full tank of water than empty.
