Anyone use a Tahoe/Yukon to pull a trailer.I looked at a 2500 Suburb 454 ci but way too thirsty as a daily driver so might go a bit smaller. I 'm downgrading from a class a so my options are somewhat open as far as trailer length and weight. Any issues with a midsize suv? We don't camp a whole lot so it won't be heavily used. Any trans or drive train problems? Engine issues? 5.3 or 5.7?

I've owned three Yukons over the last dozen years & loved each one. I never had a problem with any of them. Regarding miles per gallon, I feel that if you're going to tow a 30ft or larger trailer you need the larger engine & a 373 rear end. Milage will suffer but thats part of owning a truck with a big power plant. I too downsized from a Class A & my advise would be to shop carefully for the TT before you purchasr a tow vehicle, as you may end up with a pretty big trailer.

GM ended 5.7 production a lot of years age. The only motor available in recent Tahoe is the 5.3. It is still thirsty. Step up to a Suburban, get the 6.0 and go camping. It is still thirsty, but at least you will be able to tow a trailer larger than 25 feet

I have a 2011 Tahoe with hd towing & built in brake controller - I tow a 28 ft trailer with no issues - I get 22 mpg daily & 11 mpg towing.

Hey Jonny -
I have a 2003 Tahoe with the 5.3 motor. I tow a 24' KZ Sportsman which I *think* is around 4,000 pounds dry. I have a brake controller and weight distribution/anti-sway hitch and have had zero problems. I haven't towed much so I don't have a lot to compare to, but I bought the trailer to fit my Tahoe. I am getting close on weight limits but am within spec.
I have had no issues with the transmission or engine, it's all been great. I too have considered selling the Tahoe to buy a more fuel efficient daily driver and renting a larger truck/SUV for towing purposes but the dollars don't work out. The cost to rent plus the hassle isn't even close to being a savings for me. YMMV.

I would LOVE to know how you get 22mpg. I'm getting 17.2 or so tops on my 2011 LTZ 4x4. Are you 2WD or 4WD?

I tow my 4200 lb Coachmen + dogs, gear, etc behind my 2011 4WD LTZ with no issues at all. I traded out of a 2005 4Runner V6 for the Tahoe in order to have more margin of safety. I was well within my tow rating for both (using a WD hitch) but with the Tahoe I always feel that even uphill, in the rain, at night, etc I would still have enough extra mmmmphh to react to an unexpected issue.

I have a 2WD - most of my daily is back & forth to work on interstate @ 65 mph. I check frequently with trip & on board computer. Tow @ 55-60 mph again usually interstate also tranny temp has never exceeded 190. Pretty happy with the Tahoe
