We're preparing to tow our 2011 Wrangler on our first trip shortly. We installed the Blue Ox baseplate, Aladdian towbars, Cool-Tec wiring harness, and RVi braking system without killing each other! We're going to hitch it all up today and give it a test drive.

Now my question is the brake lights. Obviously they activate when the MH brakes are applied, and they will activate when the RVi depresses the brake pedal. So when both are activated, does that double the voltage on the wiring and light bulb? Will it cause a problem?

No the voltage will not double. However, when there is voltage from one source it feeds to the other - think MH voltage on the toad lights and toad brake circuit (possibly turn signals also). This can cause problems on some setups.

The two best options:
1. Use 2 diodes to isolate each brake light, there are numerous kits available.
2. Install extra bulbs just for the MH brake lights.

Some also use magnetic lights for the MH.

It may not be a problem for your particular toad, but find out.

BTW It's easy to install the diodes. Run the wires under the toad and install the diodes in/near the lights.

What CA Traveler said X2.

I'm not familiar with the Cool-Tec wiring harness but maybe it includes the diodes???

The Cool-Tech wiring harness is used instead of the diode setup and uses the existing lighting in the Jeep. It plugs into the Jeep's left brake light wiring, then the 14 ga wire is run up to the front for the MH connection.

You should correct problem. When you have a turn signal on, the toad's brake light overrides the function from the MH.
This is what Roadmaster recommends. You could buy relay and follow the instructions to save some bucks.

Received an email back from Cool-Tech. According to them, since the brake is being depressed by the aux system and receiving signals from the MH, the M1 fuse should be pulled in order to have brake and turn signal indicators.

A lot of folks who have to pull a fuse on the toad end up connecting a toggle switch to that fuse so that they can disable the fuse without pulling it.
