I want to remove the covers on my rooftop air conditioner covers so that I can check for leaks, but they don't seem to be big enough at the bottom to slip over the unit. They are made by RV Products on a '02 Tiffin Phaeton. Anyone else have this brand of a/c?

Are you talking about vinyl storage covers? If so, cut them off and throw them away.

Does your cover have four screws with large plastic washers on the top? If so remove the four screws and then firmly wiggle the cover straight up. Sometimes you have to get your finger around the lower lip and help it around the lower edge.

Soft vinyl winter covers ? The elastic bottom stretches unless they've become old .. In that case cut them off and replace them they are cheap. If your talking about the hard plastic cover that's screwed on .. Remove the screws and slide forward or back ( I cant remember ) then lift front or rear off first .
If your looking for water leaks you won't see much the seal is covered by the base plate .youll see more from inside. If your talking about freon leaks again nothing to see here .. Besides the aren't generally reparable .. Replace the whole unit. ???

Yes, the vinyl covers on the rooftop units. I would not do that since I have a huge leaf problem where my coach is stored. The covers give me a small measure of protection.

I guess they are hard plastic permanent covers with four screws on top. I am going to talk to Tiffin today about them. You may be correct in that there is nothing to see even with the covers off. Thanks.

To get mine off I pull the cover backwards and lift up as I recall.

OK, Completely different. I thought you were talking about the vinyl "bag" covers that are slipped over the hard shell covers to keep them clean/dry for storage. If the elastic bottom on those shrinks, you have to cut the elastic. Your hard shell covers should be removable. There are usually four to six screws either on top or around the sides, depending on the brand, age and model. When replacing the cover check for cracks around the screw holes and use some 1" or so stainless washers if the holes look like they need some extra help. If the screw heads pull through, the cover will blow off on the highway.

Not one person in this entire thread called those "covers" by their correct name. They are called "shrouds". Correct terminology may have lessened the confusion just a tad
