Removed all my window dressings for painting on the Newmar. Blinds were super dusty and dirty. I vacuumed them on the last coach I owned but wondering about wasthing them? Was thinking of vacuuming them first them dipping in the bath tub with warm soapy water and air drying. Not sure I want to attempt this without some feedback on anyone that's done this prior?.

I'm curious how this works out...

I would imagine that you'd need some water 'flow' to get dirt to 'move' off the surface.

Odors would go away with a light wash with some detergent and then rinse-actually, some dust probably would too.

If no one has done this why not take a shot with just one-maybe an easy one to replace that doesn't have to be a perfect match to some others nearby? (bathroom or bedroom would be smaller and easy to replace if you trash it)

instead of submersing them in anything, i would probably use a spray bottle with soapy mixture in it and perhaps an old paintbrush for light scrubbing - suspended between something like two high backed chairs, you should be able to rinse with a garden hose (i'm all about leaving the wet messes outdoors)

Results were spectacular!

I vacuumed both sides of the shade on both the day and night portion,so 4 sections. Took about 40 minutes maybe for all 8 shades. I used my shop vac with a horsehair molding attachment.

I then used a capful of Woolight Extra Care and warm water in the bath tub. I emmersd each shade And Each side and just pushed my hand down so the fabric went under water several times. I then flipped and repeated for each side for day and night. So 4 total times. Then put aside. The water was filthy dirty after 2 blinds even after a thorough vacuum job. I put each one aside and changed the water after 2 shades. The I used the shower head and rinsed each one. 4 sides again and folded up the pleats nice and neat and placed on a towel and they are drying in the garage on a table. It's amazing how clean and fresh they look. You gotta figure there was 10 years of dust in them that even a blow gun would not Have come close to a good cleaning. The dirt poured right out of them. They look much whiter and brighter now and there was no stains or smoking in the coach at all.

I forgot to mention, it's a 4 hand job. You need another body to hold, help you pleat, help you rinse etc...

I've heard that Oxyclean also works well when washing day/night shades.

Here's what I posted on another thread about the same question:

"I soaked mine with a heavy duty cleaner (Greased Lightning) put another cup or so in the bathtub water and let them soak for several hours then rinsed them. Loosely folded them to maintain the crease then allowed them to air dry in the sun.

For the larger shades, I laid them out on my bar, soaked them heavily with "Greased Lightning" cleaner, covered them with cellophane so they would stay wet. They soaked overnight. Took them outside and rinsed them with a water hose to get the majority of the cleaner out then finished the rinse in the pool. Again, I folded them loosely and allowed them to air dry.

Both ways worked equally well. They all came out looking like new and they were many years old and very dirty (used coach and never before cleaned). I had to restring two or three of them.

Make sure yours are canvas before you do this. You can add a little starch if you need a better crease in the folds.
"
