I like the Trailer Life Directory as it has lots of info on campgrounds along you route, a really nice feature. The Delorme has a plug in unit that will make your laptop into a GPS unit which is really awesome. Good Luck and Happy RVing!
I've used many different programs on my Win laptop (and some on-line ones) and have even tried a couple on my ipad, but for trip "planning" where campgrounds, multi-day stays, etc. are involved, the trailer life navigator is by far the best tool, and I no longer have to carry the big directory book I used to use my DeLorme yellow puck with earlier versions of the navigator, too, but DeLorme won't make a device driver for Windows 7 for it, so I purchased a new, generic gps from amazon for navigator. Haven't tried it, yet, but I hope it works as well as the Delorme unit.
2 questions....Does the trailer life one work with Widows 7 64-bit OS ??? I've read there are problems.
And, when using a GPS receiver, is there a vehicle on the map that moves along as you drive, showing your position, like on a regular GPS ???

Yes, I am using it with Win 7, 64-bit, it's just that Delorme doesn't have a driver for their GPS for Win 7 (That's why I needed a different gps). And yes, there is an arrow showing your current location and moving on the map. It also displays speed, direction, etc. on the map.
I've tried the S&M but prefer my own method.
1. I decide where we want to go for a few months.
2. figure route (normally an interstate if going spot to spot, state to state.
3. figure attraction destinations along the way and determine daily travel
4. Use RVreview to find legitimate campgrounds
5. Put data... campground, website, phone, address, cost on Microsoft excel (excel links all web sites.
6. Hop in truck log in to Garmin that days destination, drive, no surprises, no midnight decisions, times dates, and cost already known.
Seems like a lot but we stay in CG's that are reasonable and reviewed. Our destinations are set but we can vary if we find distractions.
Normally we travel 10 to 15 thousand miles a year and to us we've been there done that a lot and keep a running list of our favorites across the US and Canada.

It must be time to go, the suns out and I've got a full tank of diesel! Lifes short enough without bitch'n about it!
I built a very nice rotatable lap top stand that is floor mounted between the driver and passenger seat. I just installed Delorme street atlas 2012, I have been using 2007 for awhile, and the new upgrade works very well for trip planning. I like the large screen. I only wish it had lane positioning for freeways like my tom tom. If wife wants to go on line to check some thing she just rotates the lap top towards her and logs on. Works great.
