I will add my two cents...

Here is what I am looking for in our new fifth wheel, I hope it will help with your decisions though...

We want the kithen table to be on the passenger side - why? Because we want to look at 'our site' and not the neighbors when we have to eat inside the fifth wheel.

Storage space - if you intend to leave in the fifth wheel for extended time, you need space for your clothes/shoes/toys. We did spent 2 months in our K-Z Jag 23 and it was OK but we were moving stuff around on a regular basis to be able to 'live' in when the weather was not as nice as we all dream it to be...

Pin Weight - that will be your challenge. Although you modified the truck with heavier springs, your door sticker still states it's a 3/4 ton. We had a 1/2 ton before which was a good match for our current 5er but when you look at trailers with the 'right floor plan for us', the pin weight was getting too close for us to choose a 3/4 ton... You will find a trailer, don't worry, just need to consider this factor though...

Shower - corner shower is what we want to get because of space. The current 'tub' works but it is a little tight

We prefer the bathroom sink to be 'outside' the restroom... easier to get ready in the morning or in the evening...

If your truck is a 4x4, you will want a trailer with 'flipped' axles

Hope this helps...

One of the biggest sellers, and very popular, is PPL Motorhomes in Houston, TX. They sell all types of used trailers, not just Motorhomes. Their website is fun to look around at also. They move a lot of rigs....

Hi Brandi, you didn't say where you planned to live or travel to, but you might want to look at a 4 season 5th wh like a Artic Fox, that will have thermail pane glass windows, better insulation, etc unless your coming back to La for winters. Your 250 should do just great as long as you stay at 30 feet or shorter. And unless its jacked up, you shouldn't need to flip your axles. I have a 250, (new one now) but had the 7.3 2002 and never had a problem with my 29 fter. and I have the slider hitch in both, even tho I never used them. But look at a 4 season type of trl, depending on where you want to go. Hope this helps. John

Thanks John.. we will be living here in LA full time, I'm retired Navy and enojying life and working at a part-time job cause I want to not cause I have too..lol The hubby is a diver down here in the Gulf so this is where the work is for him.. Again never thought to look at windows..A question though.. a friend has a 29 footer pull type camper and it seems perfect for him but small for 2 adults and 3 dogs.. We were hoping to get around 32-34 but would settle for an awesome 30.. Makes me wonder if we should be looking at a hauler instead of a 5th wheel??

Hi again Brandi, (a hualer) you mean toy hauler, or a travel trailer, can't speak for TH, but I had a TT, and it was crowded, need to look at one with slides, makes a big difference. Thats why we got rid of ours, got a end of year 05 with big discount to get it off of lot. Usually TT have small bedrooms, so thats something else to research. (Hard to make bed, no leg room to move around) somemore things for you to think about. John

Regarding the flipped axles; that may not be necessary if the trailer is running 16 inch rims with , for example, 235/85R16 tires. They are usually tall enough to negate the need for flipping axles.

Flipping axles refers to changing where the springs/axles are fastened together. I had to do this with my first fifth wheel, a 25 foot model. The springs were originally below the axles, but the fifth wheel was way too low for my truck, a 4 X 4 2500 Dodge Ram. So they remounted everything, placing the springs over the axles. Times have changed, I only paid an RV dealer $100 to do this for me.

In my experience, those trailers with 15 inch tires are the ones that do need to be flipped. If your truck and the trailer have similar sized tires (both 16 inch somethings for an example) then you should be OK.
