I really think your best bet is to try and make a reservation IN the park. Other than that, it's whatever you can find on the west end of the park in Rockville. It's so crazy busy in there, worth the trip, but man...you'll need to have some luck getting a campsite in the park, itself.

Thanks very much guys. I thought there would be a ton of information about where to boondock near Zion, with plenty of room around Memorial Day. Kind of dont want to take the chance with two small kids.

I can't think of much around Zion to boondock, unless you were coming in from the east. I have had luck about 3 miles from the gate, at a gas station/tourist place with an empty lot across the street.

Would recommend you try to get reservations soon - very little boondocking near the park - used to be some pull-offs by the Virgin River along Hwy 9 but don't think it's allowed anymore. It's a very busy park. There's also Sand Hollow State Park which isn't too far away if you can't get into the national park. Good luck!

there is a large boondocking area outside of town sorry i can not recall the name but it is first come first serve.it is located right on the river.it is very dusty and can be some what rowdy but we stayed there about a week without incident.i do remember (i think)that you follow the main road out of town and it will take you to the spot.ask some of the locals and they should be able to direct you, they did me.
just remembered it is called mosquito cove

Definitely would not recommend this dirty unsanitary place (Mosquito Cove). Also, it was closed by the BLM as of a year ago because of flooding and at that time there were no plans to reopen it. Just as well. Some people don't know how to take care of public lands which makes it unfortunate for others.

i agree it appeared to be abused, particularly in the back section.we stayed in the front section and did not find it to be unsanitary just dusty and at times noisy.such a shame that people ALWAYS find a way to screw up things for others, particularly public lands which continue to disappear at an alarming rate.i only mentioned this spot as the OP was specifically looking somewhere to camp/boondock in a resort area on a holiday weekend, his choices will be severely limited.
