So I've got to say hooking and unhooking my TT with the Weight Distribution Hitch and just the ball in general is a PITA! So on most of the little trips we have gone on I don't even bother unhooking my truck. I just let the weight off it a bit and it's normally fairly level. Other than if I'm in a spot where I can't stay hooked up or it's so unlevel that I need to unhook are there other reasons why I should unhook assuming I'm not planning on driving anywhere?
Also why is my hitch so hard to get on and off. I know how to work it but it just seems stiff...should I lube it with WD40 or something? It seems it's harder to unhook than hook on. The WDH is fine getting on just a process and I have to be on level ground or it can be hard.
Since Jan when we got the TT we have now spent 9 nights in it and those were all 1 or 2 nights trips at a time. Me and the family are having a ball and I've learned so much partly due to this forum so thanks.

Nothing wrong with not unhooking. I do it when I can. if I can`t get level front to back because of it, then I unhook. as for getting the hitch off the ball....are you using some type of lube on the ball and hitch mechanism? lube up the ball, I use wheel bearing grease, and a small daub on the locking mechanism. also be sure to use some grease on the WD bar pivot points on the hitch head.

We used to do it all the time on one nighter trips. Not a problem if the site is level enough. We used to disconnect the trailer wire connecter though, force of habit. Its ok to lube the ball and tongue.

You should use grease on the ball and where the WD bars insert into the hitch head.
When you park in your spot, you should chock the tires and then proceed to unhook from the truck. Often it might be necessary to inch forward or back a bit with the truck to relieve the pressure of the backing process on the coupler. This will most likely let the ball release from the coupler. It is possible that your coupler needs adjustment but not likely. Try the lube and moving the truck a bit to see what happens.
If you have only camped 9 nights so far, that means you have only hitched up and unhitched a few times. It really should not be a PITA to hook up and unhook. There is a bit of a learning curve and it will get easier as time goes on.
There is nothing wrong with leaving the truck attached if you wish. If the site is big enough to do it, you can get the trailer level, and you don't need the truck for anything else, then go for it.

X2 for unhooking the power connection from the tow vehicle just so that you don't accidentialy pull down the tow vehicle battery.

Are you saying the hitch is to hard to get off the ball? There should be an adjusting screw on the underside of the hitch which you can loosen a little to make it come off the ball easier.

Two trips have been 2 nights the rest are all one nights...so 7 outings. And yeah I'm normally unhooking and hooking it all alone so it is kind of a PITA. Not hard but takes time...when I get to the camp site the sooner I can finish the work part the better. We have 2 little girls ages 2 and 4 so if I can save 10 minutes of work and get to them faster it just makes life easier.

It is easier to remove the WD bars when the jack is lowered, raising the rear of the truck somewhat, back to near unloaded height. This is a lot easier to do with an electric tongue jack.

Yes....I'll take a look. It's up inside the coupler, you'll have to lay on the ground and look right up into where the ball goes and it's on the back side of the latch that engages the underside of the ball. Close the coupler before crawling underneath to see the adjustment on latch.
