Hi Everyone! This is our first post but have been lurking about for months! Thanks to all for the valuable advice. We go next Friday to pick up our new Heartland Bighorn and do our PDI. We have printed the PDI recommended. Is it wise to fax the PDI ahead of time and let them know we expect it to be used? Is this reasonable? We are so excited and looking forward to meeting you on the road.
YES, or hand deleiver one before the PDI. That way you know they have it. When I did my PDI I made sure that the service person who was going to give me the PDI had a copy and that I was going to follow it no matter how long it took (6hrs).
You may also want to take a flash light, you did not say if you had camped before so if not I would try and take a video cammera and tape everything you think is important to remember. A small circit tester to check the outlets make sure the GFI outlets work also.
Do the PDI before you sign anything...that way if you find anything to be fixed it can be repaired before you sign and take...if something needs to be repiared leave it there and have it fixed ASAP THEN go back and recheck and sign and take possession

Exactly, Curb your enthusiasm until PDI is over.
Methodically go over everything in the rig . Assume nothing works.
Check every switch drawer latch, hatch, light, sensor, mete, valve, connection, knob, catch. Everything room by room take your time.
If you find out something is broke when you get home it;s your fault.
Not really but approach the PDI with that attitude.
Before the PDI you have all the leverage to get things fixed promptly. If there is a long list give them time to correct things if necessary. Come back when everything is ion order.
Once you sign off the leverage goes to the dealer, to complete repairs on their terms and schedule

Just did my PDI on our Montana several weeks ago. I found our dealer was extremely prepared. Our dealer gave me a list of corrections, they preformed, prior to my arrival. I would ask dealer for that list if they in fact, found items to correct. As I stated mine was provided without asking, and I think buyers should have that information for future reference.
Before we took delivery on our 5th wheel I made the dealer give me something "In Writing" that showed a minimum one year warranty for everything. I broke mine down by components (structural, axles, water, electric, etc.) and put it on a spread sheet. I then went thru the warranty books and started checking things off. The warranty from Forest River was for the 'body' only so each component manufacturer was to warranty their own product. The dealer said no-one had every asked for that much warranty information. It took them 15 days to gather information in writing to satisfy my list. The dealer tried to assure me they would "take care of it" should something need fixing after I left. Truth is, the dealer can't or won't fix something unless they get approval from the manufacturer, so why not 'get it in writing' before you pull out of the dealer's lot.

I'm a bit taken aback by the level of distrust expressed for the dealer and manufacurer by these posts. I have bought several rvs from several different dealers over the years and have yet to have a problem. Yes, I've found items that needed repair after taking the vehicle home and have always been accomodated by the dealer at a later date. This has always included working a service date at my convenience where I could either leave the vehicle or wait while the repairs were done.
Our current trailer was delivered with damage to the arm of one of the recliners and the new part had not arrived at delivery date. Since we had reservations begining 2 days later we went home and packed, and told the dealer we would call him after our trip. A week later, we're sitting in our site about 90 miles north of the dealer when he pulled up with the new chair arm, installed it, and left. Do I value this dealer, you betchum red rider! And his pdis are very good to boot.
