Hi all! New here and first post. Excuse me if this has been discussed to death already but thought I'd post since maybe there's some fresh info you have that hasn't been posted yet.

I'm new to this and bewildered by the number of toyhauler options etc. Gut feeling is to go with Jayco, buy new and get the 2yr warranty to cover my rear end. That a good basic entry into this world of toyhauling?

Looking at a TT that I'll tow with my Ram 3500 dually. Will go 5th wheel in future if family likes the experience with the TT.

Jayco seem to be good all around quality and value. Their mid range TT toyhauler's seem like our speed. Seems like their company will be around for awhile.

Comments, advice??

Thanks in advance!

First, welcome! As I read your post I thought of my first post years ago. As a biker and RV'er let me give you my humble opinion.

1- If you have a dually get a 5th wheel. You won't like pulling the trailer and you won't get much back IF you can/want to sell it. A 5th wheel is a better investment even if you stop RV'ing (which you won't)

2- Buy a good used one. You will lose 25 percent of your investment as soon as you pull a new one off the lot. Look for a good used one about 2 - 4 years old and get more for your money. You can get a used top of the line 5th with all the options for thousands less than a new mid-range with little options.

3- Get an extended warranty if you buy a used one and then you won't have to worry. A good used unit and ex. warr. will cost you thousands less and you will have a much better unit.

4- There are not a lot of good toy hauler companies out there so do some research and maybe some other members will let you know what they have and how they like it.

I just bought a Sunnybrook 39' Titan and it's a really nice unit. It listed for $63,000 new and the owner bought it and then got put in a wheelchair a month later with a work accident so it was never used. It sat in storage in a garage for 3 years. I paid $35k for it with the plastic still on the floors and a 2 year ex. warranty.

Good deals can be found just look around. Good Luck!

In my life I've spent my money on women, booze, Harleys, guitars and traveling, the rest I just wasted...

I love my Jayco Octane ZX, I did not want to give up my bed space for the hitch, so the 5th wheel was out for me. JH

JR, you're a lot smarter person than I am, it took me going through two toyhaulers before I got into a Jayco toyhauler, you're doing it right the first time around. You will be happy with a Jayco, we love our Recon.

Jayco used to be good quality but, the last two years, the quality of both the products and their customer service has been going downhill. I personally would be surprised if they are still around two years from now.

I have the same Jayco. A 2009 Octane T26Y and have not had any problems with it so far. It's my second Jayco and the quality of both were great.

Wow, scary to hear Jayco having problems. Anyone have a good alternate brand that shows a more promising future? Thanks!

Thanks for feedback. Does anyone know what would be considered the brands just below and above Jayco in terms of price/quality? If I want to go a bit above Jayco quality, is there a next level brand that is recommended? Lower? Thanks!

Also, tried to post in different section about what percent below MSRP I should eventually settle at with dealer but forum wouldn't take it. Any opinions? Thanks.
