We just purchased a new 5er. Our last one had a built in water purifier, and this one doesn't. I want to purify water for drinking and ice tea. How well do Pur and Brita purifiers work? I just want to do a gallon or so at a time. We don't want to purify water for bathing and cleaning. I just don't like the taste of water in other areas.

They do very well for FILTERING already potable water. Not intended to purify non potable water though.

We've used the PUR faucet mount water filter system for years!

They filter just the water you drink and cook with, costs around 30 bucks, the filters are sold in multipaks and are also inexpensive..yet are 3 stage filters that remove chlorine, microbial and bacterial cysts, chemical contaminates, lead, industrial pollutants, Pharmaceuticals, and is "bottled water" pure!

I agree that you don't need to filter the water that you bathe in or flush the toilet with!

Any hardware or Walmart store.

Here's a list from a testing lab regarding PUR 3 stage water filters.... 99.9% of the contaminates. MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether),TTHM (total trihalomethanes),Alachlor, Atrazine (herbicide), Benzene,Carbofuran, Carbon Tetrachloride, Chlordane, Endrin, Ethylbenzene, Heptachlor, Lindane (insecticide, Methoxychlor, Monochlorobenzene, O-Dichlorobenzene, Simazine, Styrene, Tetrachloroethene, Toluene, Toxaphene (insecticide), Trichloroethene, 2,4-D (herbicide), 2,4,5-TP (Silvex), Abestos, Cycts (cryptoporidium, giardia), Turbidity, Lead, Mercury, Aesthetic Effects - NSF Standard 42...Chlorine, Bad Taste, Foul Odors and Particulate Materials.

Either one is a good faucet filter. In my full time travels water can vary quite a bit. The faucet filter keeps the taste of iced tea and coffee consistent.

I have two filters in my stick house and this city water still tastes bad. the filters are inline one after the other. they used to have great water here then they gave the water job to the city engineer and he messed things up so bad. He no longer works for the city but the damage is done. I am still looking for a good water filter system.

We decided to go with the Brita system because of a sale at the store. Not sure how to compare with Pur, but it works well for us. We "line filter" the incoming water just for suspended garbage and feel well enough with the Brita for our coffee, tea, and juice mixes. hth
