I just sanitized my fresh water tank. I filled it about 1/2 full of water and then made a solution of bleach and water and poured it in the tank and then topped off the tank with more fresh water. I then ran the hot and cold lines on all the faucets till I smelled bleach.
I let everything sit overnight and then opened all the faucets the next day to run the tank dry. I then filled up the fresh tank again and ran that dry with all the faucets opened. No bleach smell at all from the faucets now.
What about the connection for a water hookup? Is there a need to sanitize that? If so, how? If not, why?

I am certainly not an expert, but i believe that if you are in a part of the world that has chlorinated city water connected to your house (not a well) then a quick rinse from your water hose should do the trick if it makes you feel "cleaner". I personally use an "in line" water filter when we hook up to strange faucets to keep the "crud" out, and when I get back home to clean, I hook back up to the hose (that way a few gallons of clean water are keeping my tank bottoms from getting yucky)

I keep a spray bottle in my wet well that is a chlorine/water mix. When reaching the campground, I give the faucet a quick spray on the threads and handle and let it sit for a few minutes while I set up other things. After watching a neighbor camper have a sewer mishap that sprayed everywhere (including the fresh water faucet), I never plug in without spraying.

That's a pretty good policy. It's not just the occasional accident that occurs, but if you saw how many dogs christen the hose bib, you'd definitely make it a SOP.

Ditto X10 spraying the water hook ups.
I was shocked to see how many people let their male dogs use the hose bibs as their peeing post at empty sites as well as the one you are parked in and hooked up to!

I keep a spray can of Lysol disinfectant in the fresh water bay to spritz any questionable connections.

Next time pour the bleach solution into the hose then fill the tank. This will help sanitize the hose as well.
