Half Moon campground in the Gallatin NF is awesome. It is north of Big Timber, off of I-90. A beautiful drive in, lovely area.

Check uscampgrounds.info for all public-owned campgrounds. Lots of them in the west!

2 state parks, Missouri Headwaters, between Bozeman & Butte, right off I 90. Three rivers come together to form the Missouri river, Lewis & Clark stayed there. And Lewis & Clark Caverns has a campground at the bottom of the hill, they were supposed to put some hookups in there. Go through the caverns while there.

Second the Missouri Headwaters, but you really won't find three rivers - more like a spring and you can't drink the water. But it is a nice area.

Cromwell Dixon CG West of Helena was a nice spot. My Dad and I had almost had the CG to ourselves.

If you are going through Cody, WY, we've stayed @ the KOA there a couple of times. Nice location close to town. We've rented the lodge and enjoyed our stay there. No view, per sa, but we spent most of the time in town and in the great museum there anyway.

What part of Montana are you going through, or what highways are you traveling?

Half Moon Lake. This classic western resort is tucked into a spectacular mountain lake setting near Pinedale Wyoming. If you enjoy hiking, fishing, photography, or horseback riding then look no further---you are home. Just by breathing that crisp mountain air you can feel all the"city stress" melting away. The dining experience was exceptional which is all the better because we seem to eat more when we are in the mountains! All of our expectations were exceeded by a wide margin--from the classic western cabins to the warm friendliness of the staff. Two insanely star worthy items of note: the prime rib on Friday and Saturday night and the Jack Daniels root beer floats( I know it sounds crazy---until you try one) The Randolphs.

Hate living in the house which is like a box.
So I like Tent Camping.
