We would take 115 out of Colorado Springs to Hwy 50 and on to Montrose and then Hwy 50 north through Delta and on to Grand Junction. It's a very scenic route with the minimal amount of grades. Have a good trip!

We usually go N on I25, then I470, then I70 the rest of the way. Very scenic and usually the fastest. Enjoy! Why are you leaving Colorado Springs?

plan a stop in Gunnison if timing is right. It's a neat little town.

Because we have always enjoyed Buena Vista I might suggest Rt 24 then Rt 50 to Rt 550.

Just a great trip with lots to do along the way.

As I always say hard to take a bad road in Western Colorado, so many neat little towns and sights along the way.

taking 50 is scenic but you'll definitely hit some grades, especially Monarch Pass...it'd be faster to take 70 off of 470 like a previous poster said, just time it early so can avoid most of the traffic out of Denver & going thru the tunnel...

Monarch Pass will be the only big pull you will have on Hwy 50. If you take I-70, you have the climb up to the tunnels and the climb over to Vail. Hwy 50 is the better road (JMHO). Spending the night (or 2) in Gunnison is a great ideal.

just went thru gunnison friday afternoon on my way to grand junction. 75 degrees in canon city, snow storm at monarch pass, 75 degrees in grand junction. its a pretty drive, very scenic. winding roads with some agressive grades, up and down. with patience and careful driving, it will be a good drive. you cant be in a hurry. there were both gas and diesel motorhomes along the route, so if others can do it, so can you.

There are more grades on I70 than 50 but 70 is four lane. That's the way I go.

When you get to Grand Junction you are welcome to stop by site 21 at the RVranch RV park in Clifton (abuts Grand Junction on the east) and say howdy. We are in the Winnebago Sightseer with white Honda toad.
