If you already have a truck capable of it, why would you sell it and replace it with something less capable? you say your truck isn`t paid for, will you not have to have payments on the replacement truck! seems like a losing proposition!

This is the MOST FALSE statement of ALL the false statements said! The cops DO NOT CARE about the manufactures limits. ESPECIALLY GCWR! GAWR's you might run into some issues with, actual GVWR on the door sticker, They DO NOT CARE ABOUT! They only care about how much gvw tag you have paid for. If the GVW tag is less than the door tag, you get what is on the paper work! NOT the door tag!

Are you certain about that? Are you licensed to practice law and checked the laws in all 50 states and Canada? Your statement is just as bad as his!!! I have no idea if it is legal or not but neither do you!

Check with ANY of the LEO folks that post on here, along with a few of the CVEO folks, and you will see that manufacture ratings are not legal from how they enforce the laws. Axel ratings yes in some area;s, door gvwr's are not, nor do ANY LEO's have a way of knowing your GCWR, so again, a non issue from this standpoint.

I would also tow said trailer with the 1500HD truck, as it is an equal to the old 2500 8lug 8600 gvwr truck. While I personally would not pull more than 12K lbs with this chassis, or ANY 8600 chassis no matter the motor or rating. The 12K is 2x the grawr of the rig, and that is my general I do not like to pull more than this ratio with ANY tow rig. Be it a motorcycle, a typical 4K gvwr midget pickup, car or equal. That ratio is where I generally speaking find that the tail wags the dog.

Reality is, in flats, op will do ok, at elevation, probably not, if the trailer is not balanced and swaying, LEO's have a way of getting him off the road. Reality is, look at ALL the rules of the road, see what you have to follow, if you stay under ALL manufactures ratings, you will be legal. You may find, even being over you will be legal if you have a correct paid for license!

I got on trailerlife.com and looked up tow ratings on the years I'm looking at. According to the numbers ANY 6.0 powered truck (with 4.10s) will not pull my camper, not even the 2500 or 3500hd. Now that being said the 2500hd with the 8.1 liter will, it's rated at 12000 for an o4 model. And yes I have enough equity in my dodge (and it's very desirable)to get a older gasser chevy for practically nothing or stick with my back breaking payment on my truck for 4 more years. New family problems dictate all of this. I did find a 04 gmc crew cab with the 8.1/allison that has never had a hitch installed that I could get for cheap but it has 145000 miles on it. Think that's too many miles for a 8.1. The truck certainly don't show it. pretty clean.

That was in the back of mind that you may come out ahead on a sale of the Cummins, but I wasn`t sure. It was late and I didn`t think to ask that. I apologize for sounding like a smart @$$.

Just remeber that, and I`m not sure, but I don`t think that a GM 1500H/D has a full float rear axle! it has the bigger ring and pinion, brakes and 8 lug wheels of a 3/4-1 ton, but still has axles that carry the load along with C-clip retained axles!!! albiet with bigger axle bearings, but still not HD enough to carry the heavy weight of a 5`er.

You don't have to be "licensed to practice law" to know that he's correct. In fact, the lawyers I know have NO CLUE what GCWR, GVWR, RAWR, etc., even mean. Furthermore, who said anything about Canada? Should we check the traffic laws in Pakistan?

That 8.1L should be good to 250,000mi + if properly maintained.

AFAIC, any privately owned, modern gasser should be good to 250,000mi if properly maintained.

My '97 Blazer has 257,000mi, my '94 K2500 has 204,000mi, my mom had a '96 Yukon with 300,000+, all are original engines, with only the intake manifold gasket issue on my rigs, none show signs of slowing down. Many things will go bad on a later model truck before the gas engine.

Go confirm all your numbers.

You likely wont find a 5er with weight, pin weights and length like that in one rig.

I was born in Great Falls, Mt. My parents moved when I was 5. I found them when I was 10 - they were in California.
