We bag the toilet.

Flushing the toilet uses a lot of water, a 8 gal trash can bag fits in the bowl with the edges under the seat. After use the bag is tied off and put into a diaper bucket. This not only saves water but doubles our grey water holding capacity.

I spent over 20 yrs. canoe camping, so I used river water for most all my needs.
I didn't have a dog so I put dishes in a mesh bag and left it in the river or stream over night. (Be sure to tie it off to something.) The minnows will do an excellent job.
WARNING! Un-hygenic technique to follow: I drained my cooler into my drinking water container. To prevent dehydration on those 100 degree days, I'd drink a beer (yeah, I know) then tip the cooler and refill the can with water, drink that, then repeat as necessary.
I bet some desert-hiking backpackers would have some great ideas. Where are you guys?
