My new camper has a small Dometic 3-way fridge. I plugged it in and turned it on to cool and after about 28 hrs, it was at about 50 F. So I threw my perishables in a cooler and ran the fridge on DC for about 3 hrs while I went on a quick test trip. Temp stayed about the same. Reached destination and ran the fridge on propane for about 24 hrs. It still didn't cool enough.

Sooooo, what did I forget? My previous 3 way fridge(from 1974!) would drop to below 20 F in an hour on shore power. I am underwhelmed with this new technology.

Is there something I should try? I did read the manual.

Thanks!

check the roof vent for blockage
even on electric, the heat must escape, there must be ventilation from the access door to the roof vent

other wise it sounds like a malfunction and warranty problem

I hate to ask the obvious, but was your camper level?

I know my old Dometic is very fussy about being level or else it doesn't cool effectively.

I had the same problem with my 3 way frig. Called a Technician who came and adjusted the temperature knob - frig worked fine.

Cost my $40.00 to find out. When all else fails, read the instructions.

1. NO refer, no matter how old would drop from warm to below 20 degrees in an hour. YOU have a faulty memory or bad tstats.
2. You NEVER operate on DC unless you are driving. DC operation is a Maintaner of previous temp and will not continue a cool down while on DC
3. Is this the first time you have used it? How are you measuring the temp? The only way to measure interior temp accurately is to leave a glass of water in for 24 hours on MAX cold on the tstat and then measure the water temp. Doug

Nowhere near enough information about the fridge you purchased to even guess. Since it apparently is not working on either LP or electric mode (12 volt mode is unknown but usually will not actually COOL a fridge anyway) then I would suspect the thermostat is not working correctly. This guess assumes that a whole LOT of other things are working correctly though and that's not a sure thing either. Might test the fuses on the control board for starters.

It could also be a air leak at the door seal or in the back.

Thanks for the input. I don't know much about these things. It's a shiny new RM-8501 and I did read the instructions, really! It was level and turned up to the coldest setting.

I'll check the vent and seals and any fuses I can find. I am hoping it's something easy and I can avoid having the thing serviced.
