How many of you have a trailer with EZ lube bearings and lube them as designed without experiencing a seal failure. I have such a trailer and I have not opened up the axle hubs to inspect for seal failure. I see posts of people not trusting the design and refuse to lube per instructions. They say to repack these bearings by hand as they do not trust the design.

They do not work well. 2 of the 4 on mine leaked even though I followed the instructions to a tee and never used excess force.

Plenty of folks have successfully used the feature and others have experienced failure on the Dexter EZ Lube. I have the Al-Ko version called Ultru-lube and there seems less opinions available on them.

They have worked as advertised for me. 4 trailers and thousands of miles. Grease per the directions.

Problem is, people don't know they have failed if they don't take them apart - and if they're relying on them, then they're obviously not taking them apart for inspection. The brakes still work surprisingly well when covered with grease.

Each to his own. Some here swear by them and others swear at them. I pull my hubs to inspect the brakes, etc so it's not a big deal to grease by hand and replace seals. I've seen the results of the seal failing to keep the grease off the brakes and do not trust them myself.

Mine have worked fine. EZ Lube has been around for a while, my 5th wheel was manufactured in 2004 and has them. I think if they were as troublesome as some claim on here, EZ Lube would be a thing of the past. However, I do believe if the correct EZ lube double lip grease seal is replaced with a single lip seal from NAPA or some other type outlet that sells will-fit seals by size, then it could very well result in greased brakes.

Single lip seals keeps contaminants out of the hub.
Double lip seals keep grease in, and contaminants out. IMO. Jack

put in a good quality seal and grease per instructions. I have them on a boat trailer used in salt water and haven't had the hubs off in 8 years and no bearing problems.

I have never had a problem with mine and use the EZ lube feature all the time…

The only way the seal can leak is if it is bad to begin with, or someone didn’t follow the instructions…

Look around the service departments, you won’t find them lined up at the doors for repairs, that’s just what some that don‘t like them want you to believe…

I think when someone doesn‘t like them and prefers to do it by hand, they always add the threat of leaking seals as justification for their choices… mostly carry over ideas from the junk bearing buddy days…

The only real down side with them is the amount of grease the hub holds and cleaning the hub when it is pulled… this is a legitimate concern and might be enough for some to not use them…

I use them on mine and have not had any problems.
I make sure to get each wheel off the ground and feel it for sloppiness, and then spin it.
