I had the 3 tires on my Rockwood HW256 balanced and rotated this past week. I am thinking next year I might have my mechanic break one of the tire on the trailer and the spare and switch them since the spare wheel is steel and the other 2 are aluminum. This way I can get some use out of the spare too. Don't know if it is needed but I still might do it. Next step is to get it opened up, de-winterized it , and get all of the camping stuff put back on it. Then I will be ready to camp.

I took the cover off and opened the Aliner to air it out today after last night's heavy rain.
The pollen in the air is so heavy right now that it covers the vehicles within a matter of minutes. So, after about an hour, I dusted the Aliner off and put the cover back on.
My next project will be to add a battery disconnect on top of the battery to prevent drainage caused by the propane/carbon monoxide alarm. It amazes me that most PUPs don't have such a switch.
I'm gonna open it up for the weekend and camp in our backyard. I want to see if we're missing anything that we need for our maiden voyage that's coming up a few weeks. The weather is supposed to be beautiful this weekend.

All of you guys heading out makes me jealous, not that I haven't been out twice, but, as they say Quote: I'd rather be camping!

Unlike a vehicle where rotating the spare into service can help extend the overall useful life of your tires, you are very most likely to have to replace trailer tires because of age and dry rot over treadwear. There are various schools of thought on the matter, but somewhere between 4 and 7 years, you need to replace them regardless of tread life left. Watch the sidewalls, especially, for signs of cracking. I need to go put covers on my brand new ones since I'm forced to store the PUP outside for the while.

Hey - I moved my POPUP forward about ten feet... My neighbor had a pile of PEA GRAVEL left over from a yard job and said help your self. Music to my ears...
I pulled my POPUP foward and then cut down the slab area smooth with a hole. The grass didnt grow much under the trailer anyway so that was a easy job. I made a 10-foot by 20-foot smoothed out area.
Thne I cut out a area aligned with where the POPUP tires would be and used some mortar bricks (with the holes in them) I had left over from a patio thing and added a neat four brick wide by four bricks long arangement to help support the weight of the trailer tires sitting on them. Filled all of that up with sand and packed in dirt. Then I covered the whole 10-foot by 20-foot area with PEA gravel. I know this wont hold much weight but may look nice for a little while. Not bad for ZERO DOLLAR cost to me. I may run some 2X6s end wise I have around the whole thing level with the ground to maybe keep grass from coming in on it. Might do ok using alittle weed control.
I might also bury my 10-gauge 120VAC extension cord I have coming from the garage too as Momabear always scares me big time mowing close to it. Momabear already wacked up my good fifty-foot RV 30AMP cable coming from the other trailer going to the garage. I lucked out and was able to make two 25-foot cables out of it.
AT least I can say now I have moved my POPUP trailer.
My Posts are IMHO based on my experiences - PM me

JoeRT04 wrote: My next project will be to add a battery disconnect on top of the battery
I used the BLUE SEA 9001E four position marine quality battery switch on my battery situation here. I first added two batteries and used this switch in the POSITIVE leads of the batteries and this gave me equal lenghts for the switch terminal to the each of the two battery terminals. Then I ran the NEGATIVE terminals of the batteries to frame ground connections usine the same length of battery cables.
The BLUE SEA 9001E is not all that expensive and has sealed make-before break contacts and is rated at 350 AMPS I think it is.. The four switch positions is OFF-BAT1-BOTH-BAT2. This is great battery disconnect switch and also allows you to switch eith one of the two batteries out of the circuit if you want to charge it separately or run something different using the "OFF-LINE" battery. This is great for use with two batteries being connected in parallel.
I now am setup for two groups of two batteries (four batteries in all) using two of these four-position switches to select two batteries in each bank to be used or OFF. I use a third 9001E switch to select which battery bank is being used. have them all lined up on the first metal frame member across the POPUp trailer.

Hi Roy.
Thank you for the good info. Did you put that right on top of your battery box? I have a standard battery box (see example below) that is located on the tongue jack area in front of the propane tank. I want to make this as simple a job as possible. I went to West Marine and saw the model you posted here but I am eyeing a similar model (same company) one terminal type on/off.

I have some extra lumber at our home so, recently, I cut up two 2'X12' (about 2 ft long) pressure treated boards to drive our Aliner tires on while in storage in our yard. Also, I cut up 4 smaller pieces for the stabilizers. Oh, and I cut two more 1'X 10" pieces to level the rig side by side while in the yard.
I have a set of those Lego type levels (from our previous MH) for when on the road. They're light and easy to store in the Aliner. I don't want to use them when the Aliner is in storage.

I put this switch

from Adventure RV and cut a round hole in the top of my batter box lid with a hole saw and screwed it in. I put a little marine sealant around the hole. Now I just flip it on or off without removing the lid or worrying about cables.
I like it significantly more than the kind I had before, which was flimsy and broke within a year's use, like this one:

I wouldn't recommend these to anyone. Sure, the hole you drill isn't very big, but not worth it.
