We recently bought a much larger camper for our family of 6. Myself, DW, daughter(age 6), son(age 4), daughter(age 2) and a 12yr old dalmation.

We took a trip to a local CG with full hookup for our first trip out and it was rainy and cold so we spent nearly all our time in the TT. From Friday evening to Sunday morning they had the blank tank 2/3 full and the gray tank for the kitchen nearly the same. Found out this TT has 3 tanks. 2 grey and 1 black.

We love state parks but they are electric only for sites. I am almost certain that I am going to have to consider a tote.

I assume you should buy one large enough for your largest tank? In my case I have 3, 32 gallon tanks.
So how do you transport it to and from camp? Bumper mount on TT? In the bed of the truck?

I would imagine it is smart to tote the black first then the grey for a rinse out?

Good source for totes?
Also I am having difficulty locating a good source for water jerry cans.
Any advice I have missed?

Thanks

Just an aside, that's a lot of black water for a short weekend. You might want to look into conserving a bit more especially if the only source for the blank tank is the potty. (Some units also drain the bathroom sink into the black tank.)

We have a mh and have a smallish tote we carry in one of the storage bins. I've seen folks carry them in the back of the tow truck, hooked to the ladder, or on a platform on the back.

If you end up needing to dump the black tank into the tote then yes do that one first.

And I find it is always "They" who have filled it up! ;-)

This is what I use for water containers.

Some like the square ones.

I prefer the solid plastic ones over the collapsible or the ones that squish down as we have never been able to find a version of them that holds up for our use.

Look at the bulkiness of the tote. I went with the 25 gal because of logistics. Trying to pick up the larger tote was just too cumbersome. I have yet to dump black into the tote, but have decided if I need to, I would definately do black first followed by grey. The totes also have a garden hose hook-up on the top cap. This is so you can hook-up the rinse hose at the dump to give it an extra rinse.

Really hard to imagine that much black tank fluid unless as wildtoad mentioned the sink is also going in there.

Our 3 tank setup has shower and sink to grey, toilet to balck and kitchen sink to galley. Our family of 4 can go over a week wihtout filling the black tank.

While not likely, have you checked the cover over your tank vents? Could rain have been going into the tank?

You should be able to go a week on the black tank.and the gray tank for the kitchen nearly the same. Found out this TT has 3 tanks. 2 grey and 1 black.Conservation is the name of the game. But to answer your question on a portable waste tank. A 20 gallon tank will work just fine. Most places will have a place to dispose of gray water. My routine is every morning while DW is fixing breakfast I drain the gray tanks and dump the water. I usually fill the fresh water tank at the same time.

We love state parks but they are electric only for sites. I am almost certain that I am going to have to consider a tote.

So how do you transport it to and from camp? Bumper mount on TT? In the bed of the truck? Get a 20 gallon tank, nothing bigger. Any bigger and they are very difficult to move when full.

I would imagine it is smart to tote the black first then the grey for a rinse out? I have never used mine for black water. There are just not enough places to dump black water.

Good source for totes?
Also I am having difficulty locating a good source for water jerry cans.Any RV parts store will have or can get tote tanks. Any sporting goods store should have 5 gallon potable water tanks. Instead of water cans you might consider several water hoses. I normally carry about 250 feet of water hose and that works for me.
Any advice I have missed?

Thanks

I agree.
The average person produces about a liter per day of urine. So being very generous with your family output, it would equal about 6-7 liters. Taking into account flushing volume, you might figure 15 liters total per day into the black tank..... which equals only 4 gallons of liquid per day.

Now then, who's drinking all the beer?

I suspect the bathroom sink is going to your black tank and you can do better by conserving at the sink. The wife and I can go 5 days on a black tank (38 gals) without trying to limit use. The gray water is a totally different animal. We have a single 38 gal gray tank and conserving we can go 2 days max. A blue tote for gray water would be a good option. I have a 25 gal blue tote that must be lifted on one end to empty and it is heavy. I would recommend a 4 wheel version that does not have to be lifted. In that case get the biggest one you can afford. I refuse to do black water with it and that forces others to conserve better. They connect with a normal sewer type hose but you MUST open the vent or you will have a problem! Ask me how I know?
