For those trailers with a black tank back flush fittings, are you using a separate water hose from your clean water hose while back flushing? Is there some sort of one way valve in that fitting? Seems like bacteria could still make its way up to the same hose used for kitchen sink and bath water.

You're not talking about the San-T-Flush system right? You're talking about the adapters that go on the black/gray outlet pipe. ??

Not sure what it's called but it's up on the side of the trailer about 3" below the fresh water inlet. Not in the black/grey dump fitting.

Separate hose for anything black tank related...

Separate hose for tank flush.

Which reminds me, I used a dump station yesterday that had a hose hanging there for cleanup and tank flushing. And on the end of it, someone had attached a short cut-off piece of hose like might be used for filling their FW tank. I don't know if it was put there by the service station, or a previous dump user, but it was a disgusting thought to me.

I don't fill my FW tank at the dump station, whether or not they have a non-potable sign posted (most do).

But at some point, don't both hoses get hooked up to the same tap?

How do you store your hoses separately?

Since they have backflow preventers the risk of cross contamination is very low, even if the same hose is used… having a dedicated hose is just a added ounce of prevention…

The risk of cross contamination becomes higher with how the hoses is handled more than by using different hoses…

Handled correctly there would be no reason to store them separately… if it is dragged around a dump station area storing separately makes sense…

Nothing wrong with being cautious but, some people become unnecessarily paranoid about these things… like most things a little commonsense goes a long way…

I guess you could say that all water comes from the same place - the earth. This doesn't concern me.

Dumping, and water filling, happen at different times and different locations. Not always, but this is my preference.

I do store the gray hose in a separate place. Mostly because it so rarely gets used, that it is in a less often accessed area. I'm not a big fan of flushing the black tank. The fact that the tank is dirty does not worry me. About the only time it gets flushed is if the dump station water hose has a nice fitting on the end, and I just use that to flush, if it gets done at all. I know some people here are obsessive about that black tank flushing. But I just don't get their reasoning.

Same here. Dump at the end of camping for the weekend. Put a little water in there with a packet of deodorizer and be done with it. Unless people are flushing with no water and it sitting in there dry I dont get it. At the end of camping season fill and dump a few times with water and bleach and be done with it.

That's how we started doing it but when we'd set up at site, we would have a horrible porta potty smell for a day or so. Now I flush at set up and it has been great, no smell. We use packets too.
