Does Florida renew tags by mail without having to return to the state yearly? I think TX requires a inspection annually. Looking for a full time state with no income tax to base from and could do either Texas or Florida.
Also curious about a mail forwarding service. I know Texas has the escapees club.

Tags can be done in FL by mail but your drivers license is another story. You need to have you birth certificate with raised seal, SS card, a rent receipt or power company bill, and marriage license in order to get a driver license new or renewed. Just went threw this with my mother who is 96 and been living in FL for 40 years. They have also went up on all there fees.

Those requirements are part of the federal Real ID Act and all states will implement them eventually.
I renew my vehicle tag online and get the new sticker or plates in the mail.

Even though Texas has an annual safety inspection you do not have to drive back to Texas and get one if you are out of state. Just have to get it inspected when you return. Texas renews registration by mail, have to have proof of insurance.
Had my MH in Alaska for four years. No safety inspection.

I have been renewing my registration on-line for the last 6 or 7 years. You can now renew them up to three years at a time. A new plate is required every 5 years, but it will be mailed to you same as the registration. For the drivers license you will need to return to the state every 12 years. Licenses are renewed every 6 years and every other renewal needs a picture taken at the DPS.

I am a native Floridian. I moved to Tennessee in part because of the high cost of insurance and the doubling and even tripling of fees for driver licenses and vehicle tags. If you get plates for the first time, you pay $225 per plate as a "new vehicle fee" in Florida. In Tennessee, because I am a disabled vet, my first two plates were free and I paid less than ten dollars for the title work. While I have family in the Sunshine State, I'll never go back there to live full time again. Too expensive.

Yeah as pointed out that is a one time fed requirement. Otherwise I've been renewed every 6 years via mail, for 18 years. I'll have to go in and jump thru the hoops this fall. The mail renewal is limited to people with few or no tickets within a certain time period of renewal.

Texas you can renew your plates by mail and also drivers license. You do not need to visit Texas for vehicle inspections unless you intend to stay there. One of our vehicles has never been in Texas. Depends also on where in Texas you get your licenses. Any big city like Dallas you will need emmission inspections. But the small towns you do not.
