We wil be traveling to NY state first stop a week in the Albany area. reservations set there. Then we will end up in Olean area, all set there. We want to spend a few days in the middle of NY. FingerLakes area would be great. Any suggestion? Preferably in the southern end but open to any.

Watkins Glen SP on the south end of Seneca Lake. Considered the "Grand Canyon" of the east.

I don't know the area at all but, based on other's suggestions, I have a reservation coming up at Clute Memorial Campground in Watkins Glen.

In a few weeks we are staying at Junius Ponds in Phelps, NY just north of Geneva. Never stayed there before.

Robert Treman State Park is where I have stayedvat. It is a nice small and quiet campground in the Ithaca area. Also take a look at Sampson State Park on Seneca Lake. It is a large park. It is also nice with large open or shaded sites. Both parks have electric only with hose access about every 3 sites to fill tank. Both have dump stations.

We have stayed at Camp Bell Campground in Campbell, NY, which is off I-86, Exit 41. It was clean, and can hold big rigs, not sure what you are traveling in. It is near Watkins Glen and Corning.http://www.campbellcampground.com/

Plenty of great state parks in the area. For private campgrounds, Hickory Hill in Bath, and the Watkins Glen KOA are very nice.

Sampson is a giant park and cenrally located. Right on the wine trail if that is your thing. Sampson is on the site of the WW2 navy boot camp. The old Brig hosts a small mueseum honoring the Navy and Air Force years there. Sampson is pretty much across the road from the defunct Seneca Army Depot. White deer graze the fence line daily. Watkins Glen SP and Taughannock Sp are also nice with gorges waterfalls and hiking trails. Taughannock is about ten miles north of Ithaca home to Cornell.Beautiful Architecture an extremely active art and music scene.
You couldn't pay me to stay at Clute, Do a google earth search and you will see what I mean.Rv's parked cheek to jowl with a major marina and boat storage yard seperating the park and Wal-Mart and across the street from a brine salt processing mine, located on Catherine Creek which is actually a channel that winds through a swamp a mile wide and and 7 long. Clute must have something going for it because it is always packed full, but you will not be seeing me there.
