You forgot to belittle the cheap 6.7 engine for its breakable rods at whatever the HP was
Yes I assume the tranny will be the sticking point. After all one speaks Mac the other speaks PC.
Nahhh... that would be the ring seats on the 5.9 and head gaskets for the 6.7.
Remember that...

I'm replacing the headstuds on my engine. That should take care of any head gasket issues.

One poster should be along shortly to say how evil head studs are. And not to plane the head flat.
Oh, that was for another finicky engine, sorry carry on.

I think he was pointing out the " but state law shouldn't trump federal law " comment CARB who employees my cousin BTW, is one power house in not only the biggest auto market but any thing to do with air quality. Even the fireplace's are regulated in new home construction not to mention little things like lawn equipment engines. If you look at any states new laws regarding air quality standards, it was CARB related. Sorry you already knew that I guess
Does OP live in Cali? If memory serves me right from other posts, I think so.
Thank you sir, saved me some typing.

Without a doubt it's a great mod, some of us are just curious of the details. I used to own an '08 F350 and I looked into doing the same conversion. The sad part was the state government was the biggest obstacle.

I guess you need to inform some of us on this obstacle. Why would the state that you live in object to an engine swap, especially if the engine (and emissions compliance) is newer than what the chassis was equipped with?
Where I live it is a non issue, but I'm curious as to why it would be in other locales.

It's really not that difficult to see where the problems would arise when you watch how the inspections are performed. You show up in a Ford and the subsequent inspection criteria will be predicated on Ford parameters. The computers/ dyno that the smog stations use are specifically outlined by the state nd there are NO alternatives. You show up in an '08 Ford and the comnputer will be looking for an 8 cylinder 6.4 liter engine and all the corresponding OBDII data. You don't simpy state "Oh it's a Dodge engine in my Ford press the other button Mr. Smogman".
I wish the OP all the luck in his conversion. It's, unfortunately, not a viable task where I live.

I think it's illegal anywhere to tamper with, remove or modify OEM emission equipment, and I suppose one could argue that putting in an engine from a different manufacturer's truck would constitute that.
IMO it would make a lot more sense if the emission inspections focused on what comes out of the tailpipe, not what is under the hood.

In all fairness to the OP, i wouldnt sweat too much yet, as long as the engine is the same year or newer it should be ok. Of course they might want to see/test the smog,
In ma they do smog testing and plug into the computer. My 08 ford 6.4 was missing a few pieces and every year it would pass. The computer even displayed during the last test that the Exhaust filter was on line and ready...in reality it was in my shed at home.
Just my opinion, but i think a lot of this testing is BS!

I don't think a lot of folks on here realize how easy it is get by the smog testing. On several other forums it is common knowledge that knowing the right people and/or throwing a few bucks to the testing guy will result in a passing inspection. I am not advocating this approach, just stating that there are ways to get around everything.
