In the theme of not waiting until the season you need something, I am already working towards the cooler weather of late summer and fall. I had ordered a Wave 3 RV Heater and ended up receiving a Wave 6. In looking through the history, I have found some installation information with all of the possible ways to mount the Wave Heaters.

My question is; has anyone recessed their Wave Heater?

I have found that Wave 6 & 8 Heaters are permitted for a recessed installation and there are some issues behind a wall in my camper, which I need to access, so having the heater installed there would allow access to this area.

Thanks for any help!

Yes Bryan, I installed my unit into a cutout, below my entertainment center. I used the optional chrome mount bezel fora more finished look. After using it several days, I noticed the wood above the heater was dark and discolored. Too much heat was migrating up from the heater. I solved this problem by mounting two screws into the chrome bezel, leaving them out about one inch. Then I used a small insulated cookie sheet that had a raised lip on one end. I wedged that into the screws and it's now acted as a heat deflector that actually pushes the heat out from the face of the heater.

bk i installed my wave 3 in a recessed area in my TC and as others posted it began to scorch the cabinet above the recess.i too built a heat reflector which both solved the issue and provided a good reflective object for the heat to bounce off which is a very good thing for radiant heat.

Big_whitey, Alpenliter, Thanks for responding! Your information was something I had not considered, burning of the cabinets above the heater. Heating my home with a Buckstove Wood Burning Stove for over 10 years, I should have figured that, but your suggestions were helpful.

One of the things I did see in the literature from the Wave Heater manufacturers was not to recess mount the Wave 3. The only heaters that the factory recommends, is the Wave 6 & 8. I wonder if this will be a help in reducing the heat, upwards.

I did see that there is a fascia available for recessed mounting, but it is in Chrome. With everything in my Truck Camper; Flat Black, it would be nice to see it in a Flat Black. Obviously I won’t be able to paint chrome, but maybe I would be able to powder coat it.

Thanks for your help and not a response in not to do it. Sometimes not hearing information can be information in itself.

wonder why they specifically don't recommend the wave 3 for this application(recessed)but make no mention of the other 2 models?

That is what puzzled me too. Obviously, to me at least, the Wave 6 & Wave 8 would radiate more heat and I would have concerns with this application if they didn't prescribe it was acceptable to recess teh Wave 6 & Wave 8.
