Didn't say it would be cheaper but a better deal. What I mean is you'll end up compromising on features to get the powertrain you want. When all in all you'll only end up getting 8-10MPG towing. pay a few $ more have a diesel and give yourself more options.

You know that you can order trucks exactly the way you want them, right? It is my impression that the OP is looking at new trucks, and most likely won't have to settle for anything that he does or doesn't want. I could get online and find a truck optioned exactly like I wanted it and have it at my local Ford dealer in a matter of days. That, or Ford will build me one. Deals can be made whether a truck is on the lot or not.

I have the gasser and my trailer is at about 9500lbs loaded. The 6.2 does a good job. I have the 3.73 and have no problems. Ford's 6 spd tranny does a great job. Nice to be able to use manual mode or being able to lock out gears if you want.

it's nearly the end of May, to get an allocation and a build date in this model year is pushing it at best.

If you miss the biuld date and it get's pushed to 2013 you'll lose all those 2012 incentives.

When I purchased my truck (in sig below), I built it on Edmunds, got invoice and incentive pricing there. I know knew exactly what I wanted and what I was willing to pay. I then emailed my exact build with my price offer to multiple dealers as a factory order. I ended up paying about $3k below invoice with incentives and got the exact truck and build I wanted. There was no dealing and no bs. It took about 4 weeks to build..

You can order your 6.2 the way that you would like to have it optioned from Ford. I would go with the 4.30 gear route if it would be me. I was at Fort Wilderness just last weekend and spoke to one of the guys who owns a truck to what your looking for. He has the 4.30 gear set and pulls a high profile fiver around 11k. He had a smile on his face when I asked him how he liked his truck....He was a fellow firefighter so we struck up a good conversation. He traded in his 06 6.0 powerstroke for the current 6.2 gas..He picked his truck up from his local Ford dealer outside of Gainesville. Good luck on your purchase.

Im not in the same rv league as you folks (me and my featherweight hybrid RV), and call me biased, but any reason not to consider a new Ram 2500 Hemi with the new 8sp tranny?

Why do I get the feeling I'm going to get a lot of these ?

No rollie eyes here Dougie123. My '05 Hemi powered 2500HD pulled our 10,400 lb 5th wheel around the southeast like a champ even with it's ornery faux 5spd/3.73 with no way to lock out O/D. Just the same, I'm very happy with our 5.4L F250 with 5spd auto and 3.73 ratio towing our current 8500~ lb mid profile 5th wheel around the same routes. This after owning six diesels over the years. The 6.2L Ford should do fine with 10k lbs. Unless you're skeerd of rpm. But that's not an engine weakness. That's a driver perception malfunction.

My 6.0 gasser loves 4k rpm on the hills. It has its best power band in that range.

Hannibal I must say I find the comment of "driver perception malfunction" funny... and its so true. When my vortec hits 4K I simply know its doing its job the way it was designed to and simply dont worry about it. Its good to get your perspective since you have run with both types of engines. I can also attest to the Hemi in towing performance because my Aunt currently ownes one. She has the 5 speed as well. So I can only think that the new 8 speed should be pretty sweet.
