I've looked for previous posts but I didn't find any. My new fiver has an internal black tank cleaning system with the hose attachment outside. I received no instructions, so I'm in the dark as to how to use it. Is there a place to turn it on or does water start flowing when the outside water is turned on? I have two black tanks, will it flush both at the same time? This seems to be a new feature since my last unit and is a welcome addition.....if I know how to use it.

Most I have seen you connect the water to it and when you turn on the water it flows and you can hear it hitting the wall of the tank. I run mine for a few minutes.

Should be an inlet near your city water hookup that says "Tank Flush". I usually put about 15 gallons or so or five minutes worth after draining and drain again while rinsing with the water. I Use a "Y" fitting and turn off my city water valve and turn on the "Flush" valve. This takes care of it for me. At the end, I run about three minutes of water into the tank to keep "things" wet while parked. Last,I shut the flush valve off and return to City Water. JMHO

Difficult to give specifics on your rig but I can share what I have experienced with others. The tank flush system has a similar hook-up to the fresh water in that you connect the "gray hose" to the outlet and turn on the water to start the cleaning. In the rigs I have seen with two black tanks, the wash only cleans one of the tanks, usually the bigger of the two. When I first tried ours, it did not work well...I discovered a check valve had been installed backwards and wouldn't allow water into the flush. This is not an uncommon issue. I still like the Flush King and continue to use it.

Good Luck!

You can get a clear connector, usually a 45 or 90 degree elbow, to put in your black water line. Then you flush until you see that the water is clear in that connector.

Just to err on the safety side I would -never- use a wye in the water lines with one branch going to your water connection and the other to the black flush line. It is possible, tho maybe unlikely, that contaminated water could backflow into your drinking water. This is actually illegal, tho I doubt anyone would enforce it.

I disconnect the drinking water hose and connect the flush hose on my unit and reverse that when done.

Hook up a garden hose and turn it on. Simple as that...provided everything's working as it should. There's a check valve in line that can sometimes either go bad or have been installed backwards at the factory and, very rarely, the sprayer head itself can get clogged. With 2 black tanks, the sprayer likely only flushes one tank. Personally, I will turn my sprayer on for a couple minutes =before= dumping, to add extra water and to help break up any clumps, and I'll leave it running as I dump. I'll then shut the valve, let it run for a couple more minutes, then dump again. In addition, I carry TWO hoses; the typical white/blue stripe dedicated only to drinking water, and a green hose dedicated only to the black tank flush. Would I use the green in a pinch? Probably, but I'd flush it well and put a cap of bleach down it, as well. Given that my flush inlet is a good 3' above the top of the black tank, chances of =any= backflow are pretty slim. One of the clear dump elbows are also very handy to have.

The instructions that come with these flush kits warn to always leave the black tank gate valve open while running the flush water. I know, the tank is vented, and as long as you don't walk away and forget, nothing bad will happen. Personally, I follow the instruction.
