Getting ready for our first weekend out with the new camper and... well the fridge has been turned on for 5 days now and is not getting cold. Unfortunately I am in the far north and am getting this info from my wife. We are two days from leaving on our trip.

According to her the freezer is cold but the fridge is not. What could be the problem? I am not familiar with these units but am handy. Where should I start when I get home tonight? I think it is a norcold fridge.

If the temp in the TT is cold then the refrigerator won't kick on. To be sure I'd put a thermometer in it.

I found the answer for my problems between here, the net and the dealer. Seems this is such a common problem that Norcold has issued a technical service bulletin.

If the on light flashes 5 times in three seconds or shows "no co" on the control panel, this hard reset will get it going again. Seem that if the fridge takes longer than X minutes to cool below 50 degrees, the curcuitry goes into error mode. If it happens twice, it locks up and you have to hard reset it. A very simple procedure that will likely save a lot of people some $$$.

Norcold Service Manual

Reset Procedure

Maybe someone could make this a sticky so others can find it easily.

Just curious to know if anyone actually gets 0 to -10F in an RV fridge. The coldest ours will get is about 5F and it's usually 10-15F when using it however our fridge side seems to cool very slowly so I'm wondering if the cooling unit is slowly failing.

0 to -10F is the recommended temp for long term indefinite storage, however usually RVers use up what's is thier freezer so I would think anything below freezing would be fine for short term. You just don't want things to thaw.

Based on our Norcold 6162 with a roof vent -10/20+F upper/lower is normal after a couple days on the coldest setting.

Keep in mind many RV refrigerators are in some state of failure and/or suffer from less than ideal installations.

In tests results posted a couple year ago we learned for every three(3)F degree rise in air temps behind the upper part of a frig there is a one (1) rise in inside each box.

If on an 80F day the temp behind the frig is 100 when operating then on a 110F day that temp will be more like 130F.

In this case if at 80F degrees outside the boxes are +10/40F then +20/+50F would be expected on a 110F day.

Many RV frigs hit 50 in the heat of the day if the doors are never opened. Temps can go much higher if the doors are open.

Keep in mind the normal temp spread between upper/lower boxes is around 35 degrees.

If your freezer is 30F (just below freezing) you will need to be happy with the lower box being 60F and that is not opening the door.

An empty RV frig on max setting for two days that can not acheive at least -5/30F upper/lower are going to lead to sad summer campers south of Canada.
