Have a buddy who is a night owl? Have him put some miles on it for you while you sleep tonight...

I had 8 new trucks since 77, all Chevys and I ordered all but one of them. I drove them as I would everyday right from the begining. A couple of them seen the triple digit limiter kick in before 100 miles on the ticker, including the present one, and at least 2 had over 500 mile pulls with a 8k gross TT before 200 miles. Never had a rear end problem or a tranny issue. 2 that I know for sure are still working hard nearing 250k. I only got rid of one before 100k and that was because the wife wanted to get rid of the small block, my fault for listening to the advertising campains and the BIL wanted it from day one.

Drive it like you will everyday and it will take a set to habits. Change the fulids and fix the small problems it will last a long time.

Well I turned the DW loose with it today to do her running around. It came back with an additional 100 miles on it putting it at 255. I guess I found my solution, swap vehicles with her for a couple days and I'll be good to go! I don't trade that often and want it to last so I'll get the 500 on it for sure before heading out.

Haven't decided about adding any steps to it, she said getting in and out with a dress was an interesting proposition but was a good sport about it.

Just backing up to the trailer I can tell I am going to love the bigger mirrors. Very anxious to get out on the road with the trailer!!!!

I never ended up adding steps to mine and don't really miss them.

Nice to have the ground clearance and they don't load up with snow and slouch in the winter

CFL the trick to breaking in gears is heat cycles. There is no practical way for a manufacture to tell a customer to heat cycle a gear set.

We had 650's for our race car's and we had to break them in just right. Really high gear ratios are very hard to break in without breaking them.
The more small trips you can put on a gear set the better. Heat them up and cool them off; heat them up and cool them off.......that is the best trick to do for a set of gears.

This being said, I would not freak out if I only had 200 miles on a set and towed with them the next day. Anyway have fun on your vacation.

Im not saying to disregard the manufacturer, but the OPs trailer isnt the heaviest thing in the world either. I would do the best I could, but in the end, I would not skip the trip because I didnt have 500 miles on.

I agree with that assessment except the OP may encounter headwind on the first leg of his trip. The trailer is light enough but the wind drag will put considerable pressure on the rear end gears.

It's a moot point anyway since the OP's missus has solved the problem by kindly agreeing to commute with the TV ;-)

Happy camping!

Don't know about the new ones but mine also had a break in for towing after the 500 mile break in.

No towing over 55mph for the next 500 miles.

Thanks for all the replies. DW had to make a run out of town today and agreed to leave the Acura home and drive "the beast" as she has named my baby. It now has 433 miles on it with a few days to spare so we are good to go. I guess I never paid much attention to the number of miles she runs!!
