Hey fellas/ladies, while cleaning the camper last night my wife and i noticed that our new laminate flooring that we had installed is starting to wrinkle or bunch up? hard to describe. We had a dealer install new flooring as during the winter the old******from the factory cracked and created a nice big tear. I just phoned the dealer and explained what was going on and they said they dont glue this type of flooring down is this correct? Nonetheless its getting sent back to be repaired.

That can happen if they force the "boards" together too tightly or they don't allow 1/4" expansion gap all the way around the perimeter.

Most laminate flooring floats on the subflooring. No nails and no glue, everything snaps together and just lays there.

The sub flooring needs to be stable or solid. If there is some give in the sub floor the laminate can bunch up due to movement.

Probably installed while too cold. Most must be installed at a certian temp range.

Wonder if a polyethylene vapor barrier was put down before plank installation? Laminate flooring is exquisitely sensitive to moisture, and an RV, especially when not in use,is hard to control humidity levels without AC or dehumidification. Then again, seems like placement of polyethlyene barrier over a wood product substrate in an RV might cause issues for the substrate......

I've read enough problems with laminate flooring in RV's I guess I'm glad I've got the old stapled down carpeting. YMMV.

I'm voting for the lack of expansion room around the perimeter.

I don't think moisture would be the problem.

OP we were told the same thing about not using glue. I questioned that the flooring seemed "raised" on our new Raven and was told they don't glue them. The mfg of the flooring suggested not to glue. So far so good. I vac and wash with no issues.

It floats and is usually glued only at edges.
