“We received our first metered electric bill and it was about $45 (for about 45 days), using virtually zero A/C during that time. While it might be nice to save a few bucks in electrical, I want to do what’s best for the longevity of the fridge.”
That seems like a lot for electric for a couple of weekend use with no AC… I’ll have to check my bill but I don’t pay much more for full time use, using electric for hot water, electric heater, and outside lighting..

Leave it on. As a KZ owner you have a Norcold refer....as such the auto is electric to gas....leave it on AC when away then if you lose power it will switch to gas and back when power is restored. I have always left my refer on all season even when parked at home. FYI it takes much less energy to keep it cool then to cool down....for every min the door is open it takes almost 2 hours to recover.( per the factory)

I would turn it off. I look at all the rigs utilities and they are meant to be turned on and off all the time.

I'd leave it on. I've had RV refrigerators malfunction, but never while they were working. Good to have the gas backup. Have fun.

That's what we do too. No problem in 4 years with our previous unit that had a Norclold or with our new unit that has a Dometic.

We turn off the water supply and the hot water heater when we leave our seasonal for the workweek. The fridge stays on all the time, running in electric mode, with propane tanks open as a back-up. Nothing like having a fridge full of cold ones waiting at the CG!

We leave ours on with propane back-up for power outages. Never had a problem, and we don't have to wait for it to get cold when we arrive.

Fridge on 'Auto', water off, hot water heater off.
I also put an ice cube on the top rack of the freezer that I check when we return to see if we've had an extended power failure thereby making everything in the fridge possibly bad. Remember that even with propane back up, if there is no power to keep the battery(s) charged up, at some point the fridge will stop working.

20 years and always leave the refrig on. It can take up to 24 hours for a rv refrig to cool down. You would have to leave all of your food in a cooler for that period of time. Much easier to leave it on will all of the basic stuff in the refrig.

That is a good tip Packer. I always set the correct time on our microwave as a quick indicator that the AC power has not been interupted. If I walk in a see the wrong time flashing, then I know to start checking other things.
