Glad you were not hurt more, just think of what would have happened if you were not in your truck but in a small car.
That very reason was why I drove my pickup trucks as daily drivers from 2003 to 2010, I was in a low speed collision with my old Plymouth Acclaim and the frame of that car buckled like a pop can, skyrocketing fuel prices forced me into driving an economy car again.
There was a thread I think on this forum several months ago about the cellphone topic over in ATC, I made my suggestions on what to do about the problem there, and got balled out over it, though given how all of the latest laws regarding cellphones are basically being ignored by the majority, that suggested solution is still what I consider the best alternative.

Sorry to hear about your accident, but what does Ford have to do with any of it?
I may have to buy a new truck and want to make sure I get a reliable one. Fords, IMHO, are the best looking trucks out there but the record on reliability since switching motors scares me. Positive input is always appreciated, though.

There was a RAV4 with a mom and her 10yo son in it in front of me. She got a light tap when I passed out and my foot slipped from the brake. I'm glad I was between her and the Lexus, frankly. If not, that young man most likely wouldn't have been here today. With that said, I'm okay with a little pain and recovery and happy they weren't hit hard.

If you want guaranteed reliability and a diesel engine, don't go any newer than 07 (And older on Fords to get the good 7.3), all of the smog engines from there on have gone through various expensive growing pains. I figure by 2017, they'll have it finally sorted out.

Only thing I can caution you on is with the new body style starting in 2008 they narrowed the tail gate opening to 59". They also rounded the bottom corners but a little lifting of the camper can easily compensate for that if needed. But you will need to make sure no part of the camper that goes through the tailgate is wider than 59". I'm fairly sure that dimension hasn't changed since the 2008 redesign.
Thank you for that input... exactly what I was looking for. Just limped outside and measured... 59 1/4" at camper's widest width. Looks like the new Chevy's are out.
Just as a side note to the Ford comments. If you like the Ford body style, I have heard lots of great reports on the Ford 6.2 gas w/ 6spd auto. I have my old 2002 F350 with 5.4 (2v) and 6spd man, and love it here in Alaska. Now I'm not hauling quite as heavy as you, but the 6.2 has a lot more ponies than my 5.4. And at least here in Alaska, diesel is at $5.26/gallon and gasoline is $4.56/gallon. Combine that with initial purchase costs, and maintenance costs, and Gas has some positives.
Just my $.02

Praise God you are ok.
We've had zero problems (see Sig ).18,000 miles. No issues loading or unloading. Rails are tall requiring a 3/4 " sheet of plywood to keep the gas piping clear.
