If you could handle an extended cab F150 then you could search for a long bed extended cab in the years you are looking for. These trucks were the HD truck and came with 7 lug wheels and over 2000 lbs of payload.

If your loading up the truck with family and gear you can still run into trouble with payload. IIRC supercrew F150's from this era only had about 1400 lbs of payload.

If your going to take that much of a hit financially I would consider upgrading to a 3/4 ton or a HD Half like I discribed above.

Chevy made a crew cab 1500HD which may be perfect for your application.

Just sharing options. I am no expert.

Lol. I guess a guy that owns a 1997 F-250 extended cab 7.3 diesel is "anti-Ford".

We get tired of the spark plug argument that went away many years ago. If you maintain a Ford truck according to the recommended intervals it is a non issue. Having owned 2 flawless 5.4L motors gives me some real life experience. Owning a 7.3 does not make one a Ford gas engine expert or fan.

Voicing one's opinion does not make one a hater.

Sorry everyone's opinion isn't the same as yours.

IF the problem has been corrected. It's no longer an opinion, but fact. Often facts are used to correct opinions, or statements from people who don't know problems have been fixed.

Spare me the feigned insult when you know one was not meant. The problem was a non issue by 2002. That was 10 years ago and it was never a common problem. I was stating facts, the things that I know to be true.

I have had 3 5.4s with zero issues. With that being said there has been issues w spark plugs in the past and it is something that a potential buyer should be aware of I do believe it went past 02 to maybe 04 or 05. The 5.4 is bulletproof as someone said and a very good tow vehicle. Just like anything used do your homework. Look at F150forum.com there is endless info on a great truck. Good luck

Again. there is a difference between fact, and opinion. It can be your opinion that Chevy is better than Ford. It can be an opinion thet Dodge is better.

But a factually correct statement is not an opinion. It's a fact.

And it is hard to power down a Ford. (opinion)

It was supposed to be fixed before the new improved 04 5.4 came out.
