Be worse to have a wild fire out there while you're camping. Restricting BBQs, that's new to me though.

Full fire bans in Alberta and certain areas in B.C. too. This could be a long dry summer but after our winter monsoons I'm not complaining yet. Old sol is quite welcome.

It says Quote: Above-normal rainfall this winter and spring has produced prolific growth of desert vegetation, including highly flammable invasive grasses.
I dont know where they get that?? We are way behind on rain fall this year??

I am also reading that there are 3 stages. In a stage 2 you can not have an open campfire even with a permit except in a CG with a fire ring.

looks like you've just gotta get a permit, not a big deal, download the sheet, sign it, fax it, they'll fax it back with a signature. it just says you'll keep a shovel and a couple of gallons of water handy, and that you'll put your fire out at night. we get 'em when we camp at kennedy meadows. take a bucket from home depot with you, fill it with your grey water, and you're good to go! not a big deal.
and remember, only YOU can prevent forest fires!!!

You won't be able to enjoy "your" desert if it is burned to a crisp.

I called the BLM and spoke with a Ms. S Booth (sbooth@blm.gov) and she was very helpful.
She told me to print out this form, fill it out, and then keep a copy of it with us in our camp.
Here's what the form looks like:

I asked her if there were any other date restrictions, and she told me that we are required to have this permit at this time. (Not sure if that was a NO or a YES, but it sounds like this permit should suffice.)
The one "gotcha" seems to be item #3: "Have a responsible person in attendance at all times." Know where we can find one of those?
