Because I've had lumps of "stuff" and TP hang up in the tank, hose end and at the valve. Neither of the latter are hard to rinse out but it isn't very enjoyable either. Also, during toilet flushing, I've had the stink come up the toilet when it's windy - which is common at our eastern Wa. CG's.
Dropping a $.99 packet in at the beginning of the weekend prevents all these things.

Plus,, have you ever had the Fantastic Fans running and flushed the toilet? Not pretty lol. I agree with you, as I've had the same problems in the past with other rigs we owned. No issues what so ever with our latest MH using chemicals as directed.
Maybe just luck or mind over matter but.....
I care too. Enzymes for us. Starts the softening and break down process for times that may be in holding pattern for a week and it is good for the septic system I dump into. Cheap and easy enough, to make it better on us and others.

Oh ya, the Fantastic Fan thing is a mistake you only make once LOL!
Pine oil in a squrt bottle mixed 5 to one; after flushing and leaveing some water in the toylet give it a squrt or two gives your toylet that woodsy smell'

You can always ask my Nephew who didnt use anything in his. And it didnt brake down. And it was like the movie RV.I always use something like this Bio-Pak Natural Holding Tank Deodorizer and Waste Digester
We have switched to the tablets for the black tank and a slow dissolve thing that hangs in the kitchen sink. We got both at Quartzite this year. They are enzyme tablets. I have found that using enzyme that we never have issues with odor. When we don't use anything we have occasional problems. Our tanks are odor free enough that I always use the fantastic fan in the morning. If we were on a tight budget I suppose this would be an area to save money. We are not on a tight budget.
I empty my black tank every 3-4 weeks. I use plain water, but now that temps are close to 90*F, I NEED to add some stuff. Been using the blue liquid, but I read that clothing fabric softener works. Probably a lot cheaper, if it works.
I will try it for this summer.
