First: 2 gallons of water in teh empty tank to stop the Poo Mountain
Second: A bottle of favorite chem
Third: Dump the tank, then dump two 3 gal buckets, then dump grey and finally close all valves and return to step One.

The chemicals do help with odor and breaking down. One could get a way with no chem for a weekend, but it isn't expensive at Wally World.

Not sure if anyone uses a macerator like on my coach but my thinking is that the chemical makes it easier for the solids to be ground up and expelled. Just makes sense to me. Now, if you simply dump and not pump and the size of the normal dump hose is big like on most rigs I can understand not using anything. It never ceases to amaze me that we drive these big "expensive" houses on wheels and it is about $1.00 per chemical application and THIS is where we want to cut corners? I can think of a lot of other ways to save a few pennies but if the chemical does nothing but lubricate the valve and clean the sensor than the buck is worth it to me..

That's pretty much how I feel as well. Heck I have twice the money tied up in our MH than I do in our house lol. It's a big investment and I want to take as good care of it as I can. I'm going to be making payments for a loooooong time. So spending a buck or two at this point isn't going to kill me. I don't even care if it's just mind over matter. It makes me feel better knowing I use it.

Remember this name....Happy Camper...Its a powder with no smell no color and a couple of ounces is all you need and you will have no smells of any kind. The story goes that a couple stored their rv somewhere in Az. and forgot to empty the black tank. They came back 3 months later and had decided they were going to face a smelly mess. They opened the moho and there were no smells at all even in the toilet. I have used this product several times and have been very satisfied. Wouldnt use anything else. Cant stand that perfume amelling stuff you by at camping stores or Wal Mart. Problem is you can only order it off the internet. No I'm not a salesman for this product. (but I wish I was)I have never been sorry I bought it..

If I'm on full hook ups I just use lots of water.
If I'm dry camping then I use powder.

I always dump and rinse before storing (along side of my house) even if just for a week.

Daughter learned real quick about F-fan and flushing.

I hate it when people ask questions, and then are never heard from again.
