Any one in that area with a new or fairly new 40 Foot Class A diesel who can tell me what they are charged in auto taxes for their RV?
I have a house in Roswell and wonder what my RV taxes will be. I know that it varies by where you live and the estimated value of the RV, but I'm just trying to get a general idea of what it will be.
Thanks

I'm in Cobb County, they use the NADA to value my motorhome, I have a 2005 MADP 4304 and my taxes last July were around $1,800. Hope this helps

I just received my tags for a 2003 georgetown 326ds and it was only $183 no other tax in CA. Do other states charge a tax like property tax for RVs?

Georgia advelorum tax has recently been changed. It will affect new purchases and can be significant, I would read up on it before I did anything.

Wow. That's high and Fulton county if normally higher than Cobb. I'm looking at a new Tiffin 40QTH. I could see it being $2,500-$3,000 annually. I think I seriously have to consider registering it in another state!

You do not want to register any vehicle of value in Fulton County. Got to pay for the crooked politicians that run that place somehow.

Interesting the comments of people from outside the Georgia area. Living in Fulton County (Roswell) my 2003 37 ft gas unit costs $635 annually ( now in Gilmer County with cost of $350). The tax has just been eliminated and is being replaced by a one time purchase tax on new and used vehicles from private and dealer sales. Suggest you call the state and ask.

Great! Sounds like the advalorum tax is going away for new RV purchases. Could be part of the bills that make Georgia a more retirement friendly state. I will research the change in law and report back my findings.
Thanks for the replies!
This is great!!! All ad valorum taxes for all vehicles are getting replaced by a one time title tax. The new tax goes into effect March 1, 2013, however for auto purchase in 2012 you can use sales tax and advalorum paid and apply it in 2013 title tax and be done for ever with ad valorum tax for the vehicle!
Prior to this new law people buying from individuals didn't pay sales tax, just the ad valorum. Now all purchases, will pay the title tax at following rates:
6.5% - 2013
6.75 % - 2014
7% - 2015 and beyond
Unfortunately those with purchase in 2011 or prior will still be on the ad Valorum until they sell it or it seems that in about 10 years the value of the vehicle is so low that you would no longer pay it. Good reason to sell that used MH :-)
Works great for me. I moving back from Maryland to Georgia in a few months and can put my cars on the new system. By the time I buy the motorhome, the new title tax will already be in place. With the new Title Tax I will pay much less over the years.
Glad to see that Georgia finally eliminated the Ad Valorum/Birthday Tax!!!!!

Over the years I've seen a Prevost in my area with a Florida tag, I can only assume he registered his in Florida even though I bet he lives close to me. I looked into registering mine in Florida last year, after comparing the one time registeration fee for a Florida registration and taking into account the increase in insurance rates it would have been a "wash" for me in the first year and I would have seen some savings in subsequent year. Due to other things going on around me I wasn't able to transfer my registeration last year.
With the "new" law taking effect the annual ad valorem tax will go away if you buy a motorhome after the law takes effect, so you may want to wait until the law takes effect until you buy your new mh. I did buy my used mh from an individual so I was able to take advantage of Georgia taxes by not having to pay sales tax on my purchase.
PS. I just searched the AJC for "birthday tax" the new tax doesn't go into effect until March 1, 2013. You can also "opt in" to the requriements of this law if you buy before March 2013, based on my understanding I believe this is what I would do. It would be a good idea to research this new law before you make a purchase.
