Chuck&Gail wrote: OK folks, cut the OP some slack. I think the old style 240 volt drier and stove outlets could easily be used with a 120 VAC trailer plug. Remember those sockets guys?
NEW 240 VAC sockets are 4-wire, but old ones were 3-wire.
Hope dameage isn't too great. Note there are a few folks every year that plug a 120 VAC TT into 240 VAC, so don't feel too alone on that. Even electricians have done it!
I have one in my Garage for the dryer I have out there and you can get the RV plug in it. My Brother in law plugged his in there. Luckily the breaker was off and I caught it as I pulled in to the garage.

120 30 AMP

240 Dryer plug,
If you are not paying attention it can be done. These are mine at my house. I wired in the the 120 30 Amp myself to an outside box. Learned how to do that from my time on Submarines.

My same question was "how?". I was thinking on a dryer plug the hot spades were vertical, but larger. But, great pic though. I can totally see how you could cram a 30 in it. Now I wonder what that socket is doing on a pole in the first place. Also, even if the a/c were turned off, wouldn't it still be fried, as you had 110v running into the common side? I can see how it would be OK if it were just a high spike in the hot side of the 110, but when put 110v into the common side of an appliance, something is gonna puke.

Sorry to hear about the mistake. If your husband is handy I would have him open the back of the microwave. I believe there is a fuse in there and it might just be blown.
Unfortunately the rest of the non-working appliances will probably have to be replaced.

YOU CAN'T GET A 110/120v PLUG INTO A 220-240v OUTLET!!!!! .. As you can see from the pictures, it can be done if you try hard enough. There are still a lot of those old 220 volt outlets around. (Yes, it was called 220 then vs. 240 now!)

Hi all....so sorry I have not gotten back to you. So here is what happened. Everything was on at the time that he plugged up the camper so he could see if everything worked. So we lost the microwave and ac unit. had to replace a switch on the fridge and thank god it works. Replaced the ac unit and microwave. Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. Lesson learned for sure. So excited to get it all working so we can start enjoying it. Already have some great destinations in Missouri. Have a great day and God bless

So sorry to hear of all that expense..
My husband ran our new boat aground on his first day out and it cost us $1200.00 to fix.. so I know the feeling.
Well.. lets hope you are now officially disaster proof for the rest of the seasonI

I am really surprised that the converter wasn't damaged. Hope it was checked thoroughly.
