Wondering if anyone has used or considered one of these kits that has a few outdoor wireless cameras and a central hard drive that records footage from them? Thought this might be an interesting option to keep an eye on playing kids while we inside, have a video record of what happened around our trailer while we away from it, and just be a good overall security option. Thoughts?

My thoughts...forget about it. Keep it simple. You go camping to relax, so relax.
In all the years and miles we have camped, we have never needed "security" while in a campground..never been attacked, never had anything that we cared about taken.

I recently got one of these cameras to keep an eye on whatever at home. Just used it to find out where some bunnys were hiding in my garage so they could be relocated to the outside before they got hungry. You can put in a micro SD card and get it to record for you. You can then use your computer to connect via ethernet cable (provided) or wirelessly (if you have a router). So camping you'ld use the cable. Easy to setup, easy to use, compact.

Sounds pretty creepy to me. Why do you need a record of what's going on around your trailer? I think you have other issues to deal with.....

Figured might be useful if kid gets lost, something goes missing, interesting animal visits etc. Not creepy; just curious. And safety minded. Could also get some entertaining Youtube fodder from it.

rollingrogers,
Installed two of these cameras in the chicken coop so my wife can keep an eye on her birds, their food and water supply, and verify the gates (automatic doors) are in the correct position when we are traveling. They work "reasonably" well , but it also takes some setting up. Guess it depends on how important the information is to you and how much you want to fuss with technology.

Im not really in the 21st Century yet BUT some of these Security systems have remote access as in you can monitor whats happening at your sticks and bricks or your MH(if a hot spot/internet is available). I kinda like this feature as a way to keep my eye on the kids(dogs) and another way of verifying the Power is still on and air conditioner is still keeping the kids cool while away from the MH. Of course I need to update my antique cell phone first!!!

I'm working on a setup so that I can get the temperature in the camper and see my dogs on my cell phone. The sharx camera above is the camera, Temperaturealert is the temperature sensor. But this is a technical endeavor. I put a server on the temperature alert which will get the video from the Sharx camera and push the video and temperature to a public server I have access to. Then my cellphone just has to connect to the public server and I can see what's going on. And it will send an email to my cellphone if temps get too high. Yes, I'm a geek.

IMHO it is creepy and just 'what' and 'who' would this camera be pointed at in a family CG where the sites are all close and other children playing all around?? Not quiet sure what I would do if I found out the camper next to me was sitting inside his MH watching a video camera pointed any where's near me or my family. Just saying.
