I am upgrading from a Class C to a Class A and worry about my GPS taking me down country roads with small bridges or tiny tunnels. Are there any map services that provide large vehicle directions? Thanks
I had a close call a few months ago driving through a city, pulled off the main road for a bit to eat. When we left due to one way streets it was difficult getting back on the main road. So with the flow of traffic I went around the block util almost going under a low underpass 4" lower than my motorhome. I quickly recognized the danger stopping the coach in the middle of 4 one way lanes of traffic with a solid row of parked cars and buildings lining any possible quick escape. And then my guardian angle blessed me, in the middle of a busy city in mid-day a road crew was just behind me stopping traffic while they positioned in a crane for maintenance. Still needing to back up 100 yards and back through a busy traffic light with cars ready to push through, I was able to backup through the intersection and pull forward making my turn all before the light turned green. This all happened in a matter of 40 seconds... Thank the Lord!
I believe the Palazzo motorhomes have a height just under 12' (Manufacturer's 2013 Palazzo Specs), that shouldn't be to bad. But I'm with you, I would love to have Google's Navigation only show "confirmed" bridge sizes. Than after entering you motorhomes height, allow Google to make suggested routes & also speak warnings just before going under all bridges and underpasses.
Spend the money and get an RV specific GPS. I have the RVND. The 5510 or the 7710 will suit just fine. You can prgram it with your size, weight, LP etc. It will route you accordingly.
If you use good sams trip routing you can set parameters to avoid low overpasses, restricted bridges, etc. We use it in conjunction with our gps to stay out of trouble.
