We used to "camp" in the early days like most folks....have since evolved through the usual stages into our class A with all the amenities of home. I find myself almost appoligizing when I tell people about RV trips now days. Why should I have these feelings....?? We like to go to an RV park with nice outdoor kitchens, lakes, golf, pools, tennis etc.....our coach has more features than some homes. I'm just your average middle class shlock still working for a living getting the kids through college. Am I weird for feeling this way....?? We still enjoy "dirt" camping and do light the campfire and cook in the dutch oven. But I find I get some rolling eyes.

I never feel the need or urge to apologize for the life style we live or the material things we have. I started with nothing except a good work ethic, work long hours, saved my money, purchased things when I had saved enough money to pay cash, did without, etc, things that everyone else could do as well. It all comes down to choices.

I feel that way a lot too. We're still in our 30's and on our 3rd trailer with all the bells and whistles. Most of our friends are in tents with the bare essentials. They say it's not camping anymore, we calll it "glam-ping". I feel guilty on occasion so we usually host at our site so everybody can share the amenities. They poke fun but nobody complains when I get their cold beer out of my fridge.

People make their own choices. We chose to go with a large 5th wheel with all the bells and whistles mostly because that's the way we've always done things. We have found that if you buy the top of the line, you end up with something that performs better and lasts longer. We didn't have kids so we had extra money to spend. We started off in tents, campers, TT and now a 5th wheel, we've paid our dues.
Our friends chose to have kids and all that comes with raising children. Most of them didn't RV but would tent camp from time to time. Now that the kids are grown up and leaving the nest several have bought RVs.
I bet your eye rollers don't think twice about flying to Hawaii for vacation or staying in hotels and eating at restaurants during their travel by plane or car.
We each make our own choice and I'm really happy with the choice we've made. I would never fault anyone for choosing to spend their money in a way that makes them happy.

We're retired, so we now RV not camp. There is a difference and we make no apologies for having a comfortable rig in that this is our fulltime home. No way should you ever feel bad about what you have - - you've worked for it, why not enjoy it? We do usually avoid state parks in the summer so those who are working can enjoy them - we have lots of other options.

RANT! I get so sick of this class envy that has so dominated the last 3 years. Sorry but I worked and still work very hard long hours. I ate a lot of pasta and beans. I drove beater cars for years. I camped in used tents and pop up campers with holes. I am 69 years old and I am not about to apologize for saving and scrimping for the last 60 years. I can now live comfortably, I owe nothing to anybody. I just bought a class A for cash. I intend to enjoy what time I have left and I do not feel that I owe anything to anybody. Oh and by the way , I am one of the the 99%.
