Well it's was a long winter ( note to self don't get your first HTT in jan) I was finally able to get out and go camping. I have been to east lake campground in hopkins and then hungry horse in Dorr.
East lake was a nice campground i camped on lot 12. the weather was rainy and cold both weekend I stayed out there. It is very hilly terrain so I was always having to keep a eye on my 2 year old. They have some nice amenities which include arts and crafts in barn on sat mornings. They offer a hayride at 4 pm that was free to all campers.. They also have a great lake that is suppose to be great for fishing.. On the down side very small playground, no pool, very hilly, not much around to do close to campground
I would go back again and camp. I would ask for a site closer to playground. ( I camped on the other side cause I was building a deck for my neighbors n seasonal lot)
This past weekend I was able to go to hungry horse in Dorr.. This campground was beautiful when I pulledn lush green grass.. Lots of trees. We camped on the backside of the first drive lot 72. They have 3 playground areas. A wading pool with coconut water tree that dumped water on the kids heads. They had a regular pool that wasn't full yet.. In between the the road going in (one way) and going out, they have a large grassy place where people played baseball. Frisbee, volleyball, sand boxes.
They had a hayride at 7 pm Saturday night this cost 1.50 per person. It took you to the back of the property and you could feed the horses.
Downside very loud ( I was shocked by this), hayride was 1.50 per person.. This cost should be thrown in.
Okay so that was the 2 campground I stayed at.
With my son I would go to hungry horse. Without my son I would go to east lake..
Both great campground
Please share your camp stories with everyone so I can get a idea of places to go..

Other side of Michigan we LOVE Monroe County KOA. Tons to do for the kids, huge swimming pond, fishing pond, waterslide, mini-golf (all included). Plus bike and boat rentals, big playground - even a pet playground. Sites are nice and facilities are in great shape. It's on the pricier end, maybe $50 a night for w/e? We love it though, the kids always have a great time.
It's a few miles away from Cabella's too, so on rainy days we head there and that's always fun too.

If you are in the Port Huron area, Lakeport State Park is nice, right on the water.

I've been camping at Lakeport State Park for the 4th of July for the last 15 years.
This year we're going to Algonac State Park. We didn't use the beach at Lakeport much anyways so I'll trade it for the archery and shotgun range.

It is actually just off US-23, just south of Dundee.
