I'm currently in an 06 Duramax with 110K and couldn't happier. My business partner's transmission just went out (luckily, covered by insurance/warranty) and it got me thinking.

A huge repair like that, although unlikely, would really be a hit to our company. So, I'm at least wondering.... I keep hearing stories of the 60K new diesel truck. But, what does it really cost? Can anyone give me a ballpark "out the door" cost of a 2012/2013 Duramax 4X4 CC with a reasonable amount of options. Or, what's the best website to get a realistic price.

I've been so convinced I'm going to keep this truck forever that I know nothing at all about prices of new rigs.... thanks for any info.

I would make a call up to Dave Smith Motors in Northern Idaho. That number will be the lowest you will find.

whats a bigger hit for the company, new truck or small repairs you may need... Transmission in Duramax going out , well just dont see that alot.... I think you have many more fairly reliable years in that 06..

Maybe not *the* lowest . . . but close to it.

Use Edmunds (or?) to find the dealer invoice, minus dealer holdback and you will be pretty close to knowing dealer *cost* - prior to any dealer incentives (to/for the dealer for volume, etc.) from the factory.

Then "shop" the price/s around to dealers in your local area to see how close they can/will come to your "benchmark" prices.
Always contact a dealer's fleet mgr or internet sales rep - never an "on-the-floor" salesperson!

Always price apples to apples (identical model, options, etc.)- w/o any *buyer* incentives.

BTW - remember . . . the *BEST* truck is the one you own now!.

At 110,000 on any D/A that has been maintained will still have lots of miles to go on that truck, just do the maintenance and treat it right and it should get you down the road another 100,000+.

A trans is always cheaper than a truck, but in a business setting your 06 is long depreciated. Your accountant if you are not one can best answer this question. Admit it, you just want a new truck .

DW said to me the other day,"When are we getting a new truck?" My reply...NOT FOR AWHILE! My 07 still goes down the raod good. It just turned 90k and yeah I need a few things...but the routine stuff on a new one will be the same. No I don't have a turbo brake...but I don't have exhaust fluid either. Worst case deal, you finance the whole new truck, (just sayn...not actual pricing) Sticker 60k. No trade value/down payment after incentives lets call it 50k financed. That translates into 1k/mos payment. If you're at the point with your truck that you are spending more than that on your current truck...it might be worth a new one!

Ballpark out the door price of $50k or thereabouts.

If you run a business, the highest cost item is the opportunity cost of a break down or out of service time vs. the cost of keeping it running.

Opportunity cost calculations can only be done by the business as they vary widely.

If it is a news business where you have $300,000 of satellite gear mounted on the truck that may cost $100,000 max, a team of 2 or 3 professionals inside, and the cost of missing a story is large in lost viewers / ad revenues, the cost of buying new vs. old quickly favors the new.

It is a business decision.

It doesn't always make sense to run things into the ground.

There are several good sites available to price vehicles from. I prefer Chrome Car Book. It gives you MSRP and Invoice price and I have found it to match price and options exactly to the makers sites.
